Just reading the posting about black belt mathematics made me break out immediately in arm pit sweat... A train leaves the Virginia-based dojang traveling southbound toward Jackson Mississippi at 60 miles per hour with 10 martial arts students having a cumulative weight of 1976 pounds. On board the train are 24 cases of moonpies, 9 cases of RC Coca Colas, 11 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts (original), the Kim Jong Il Love Making Secrets video collection, and Timos pet pig Reggie. . . at what time do the Virginia based hapkido players kill Reggie and have a moonpie fry, assuming that the train maintained that constant 60 mph speed... Maybe as a benchmark or "minimum" it is O.K. but as a legalistic adherence I'd have to say it doesn't work." Dear Jeff, Then we agree. Time in grade/number of classes are two of my minimum standards, but performance is the true grading criteria. I was simply commenting that IMHO one could apply the same cirricula with the same retention over 600 one hour classes in 5-6 years, 300 2 hour classes in 1-3 years or whatever combination. Going math crazy for illustration Take an athletic 17-27 year old (you know LEO rookie or GI) For six two hour classes a week. Teach one new WTF kick a week for the first four months. Teach one new Taekyuk a month for the next 8 months Meets all the minimum requirements for KKW 1st Dan.... __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I posted: The O Jay's said it best "For the love of money..." In all fairness, Chief Instructor "A" if he's lucky enough to teach martial arts full time understands the grim truth that he needs X students to keep the doors open and Y students to sustain his family's lifestyle. Dropping the student count down to Z looks like bankruptcy. This situation always leads to stress and tension. The person with the obligations usually feels a strong need to hold current clients as close to the fold as possible. It ends up in a lot of poor behavior, but looking outside in can be understood based on the grim reality. What sometimes works better is for Popular Head Instructor "B" to "buy" clients and/or the entire location.... my 0.10 worth, my 0.02 is free Yours in jung do, Charles Richards www.mojakwan.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
