I see it as working together to serve the martial arts we love:) Looking forward to seeing you and your students on the 28th weekend for some testing and training. If the KOMA-USA is doing what it can to help hapkidoin, taking care of its students with integrity, and teaching good martial arts, then good on them! I've never been on the mat with Julian Lim but I know him from his trip he and Master Anthony Low made to Korea and he struck me as a man of character and integrity who wants to do what's right, especially after the whole Hackworth fiasco. After spending just a few hours with him I genuinely liked him and he seemed sincere on trying to positively affect the current status of the KHF. I wish the organization the best of luck and I hope it works out. Just farting a little hapkido sunshine. It is a matter of general disgust at the way that I perceive most organizations to be run. KKW is having problems, KHF is having a busload of problems... where does it stop and to whom do you go? As sated, we are a brotherhood. A family. I cannot speak for anyone else, or any other organization, but what I can say about our organization is that we work together. It really is that simple. This seminar will be hosted by Master Fabian Duque and lead by myself, Master Holcombe Thomas and Master Duque. The fee for all 4 days of the seminar (not including hotel or travel expenses) will be $100 (U.S. Dollars). As the U.S. Director of the KHF, I understand the immense burden that the cancellation of the Masters Seminar and Dan Testing has imposed upon all of you who were planning to attend. I too have found this cancellation to be an incredible inconvenience. In order to show our support for Hapkido, however, and those who were planning to attend the Ocala event, we will move forward with this training seminar in lieu of the previously scheduled Instructor's Course and Dan Test. It is our hope that these four days will allow each of us to forge new friendships within the American Hapkido community while learning more about the art which we all love and cherish. In order to prevent any confusion, I must reiterate that this is a Friendship Workout/Seminar. It is open to all Hapkido-In, regardless of organizational affiliation or belt rank. It will NOT offer qualification towards instructor licensing under the KHF and Dan testing will NOT be performed. Through myself, Master Thomas and Master Duque you will be exposed to the curriculums of three different Hapkido Kwans and learn more about what KHF Hapkido has to offer. So prepare to train hard, sweat and make new friends. Also, feel free to bring your camcorders! Details regarding the exact schedule will come at a later date. We do ask that those planning to attend notify Master Duque at the previously posted phone number/address as soon as possible, so he may have an idea of how many people will be coming. You may also contact him for other questions regarding hotel and/or transportation. With regard to the cancellation of the Instructor's Seminar and the recent turmoil occurring within the KHF, all that I can say is stay tuned. I will not go into any details at this time as it would be inappropriate to do so until all of the facts are more fully known. Rest assured that I have been, and will continue to be, in constant contact will both Master Bae and Mr. Johnson about these matters. I will post information on this site as I learn more. Also know that both Master Bae and Mr. Johnson have our interests at heart and have been working tirelessly to rectify these issues within the KHF organization. Sincerely, Harold L. June 24 - 27 2004 I would like to invite all of the Hapkidoin to the friendship Hapkido seminar in the City of Ocala - Florida. I for one would like to welcome all of you to this gathering of Hapkidoin, with the only desire of sharing, learning, and training in a real fellowship of Martial Arts spirit. We will provide more information on the topics of the seminar and the 3 different curriculums the participants will be able to see and practice. Also, I would like to extend my invitation to GM J. The organizations you list charge fees and as far as I know don't support the KHF. It is highly likely that not very far down the KOMA road you will do the same. No one said you were making false claims, just seems at odds with the work that is already in process. I am not in the KHF, and have my own organization. I enjoy workouts and open seminars so no complaints about those objectives. Please tell us why you formed this organization These folks listed below don't just work together they are part of a business venture and they ask that you send the dues to them. That was announced here on the DD. Master West in 1996 was told by Dr. Kimm He Young, "...I have observed Master West develop far beyond the initial training he received in Vietnam. He has greatly polished his skills and technique and matured in his teaching to become the outstanding instructor and leader that he is today. It is time for him to take his place as a completely independent leader in the field of hapkido as head of the Southeastern Korean Martial Arts Association..."> That has, of course, evolved into the USKMAF. I have seen the letter to Master West from Dr. Kimm. Dr. Kimm, Master Han, Master Ji, Master Myung, and their equals, are all VERY well respected hapkidoin who have 'earned' their right to be leaders. What we don't need, is just another association for the sake of an association (or ego). Taekwondo Times and Black Belt Magazine are full of advertisement's of organizations. They are every where. But the head of some of those organizations are not leaders in their field, some have no time in rank, just the paper. So lets compare apples to apples. To paraphrase another, "there are essentially no 'styles' of hapkido. It is like cheesecake. You can cut it in wedges or squares or just dig in with your fork, but it is still cheesecake!" In other words, good technique is good technique, and only learning a part of hapkido and calling it this or that kind of hapkido does not make it hapkido. Unfortunately, I so often see this, not just with taekwondo folks who also practice hapkido, but with 'fast track' players. There are of course, exceptions to every rule, but they are few and far between. The 'true' leaders in hapkido have forgotten more than I know, and I have dedicated 3 decades to actual training, not promoting myself. I am not going to start my own organization or 'style', promote myself to supreme grand triple master and sell or give away multiple promotions and regional representation. The fact is that people are doing just that. It is NOT beneficial to the art of hapkido. This is after all, the bottom line. Jere R. List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Help: I've been practicing jujutsu and FMA for about 11 years now... it's been a while since I put out a post, with the situation here in Iraq looking crazier and crazier... anyway, I had a experience that I'd like to share with everyone here, particularly those FMA'ers who have yet to put thier skills to use against someone who wants desperately to do them in. It was the day after Saddam got bagged; we were on convoy, and it was dark. the route we were on was one we had taken many times before, no biggie, or so we thought. I was in a "gunship" hummer, scanning my sector as usual, when we saw green tracers fanning up towards the sky. then flares. FYI, the US Army does not issue green tracers. anyway, we started taking fire, from the left side of the road, then the right. now, up until then, marksmanship training consisted of getting in the prone, firing at timed pop up targets. the 4 fundamentals, breathing, trigger squeeze, stock weld and positioning were drilled into me; they wer e gospel. but here i was, trying to engage an enemy in darkness, with only muzzle flashes to guide me, from a moving vehicle. to say that my adrenaline dump was frighteningly overwhelming is an understatement... did those 4 fundamentals go out the window? your bet your ass they did!! probably the only pretty "technique" i did was ducking behind the door when a tracer zipped by us 3 feet away. no one got hurt; thank god hadji is a lousy shot most of the time. so were the skills i were taught wrong? no. the marksmanship training i recieved prior to deployment would have worked great if i were in a foxhole facing an enemy charge. but warfare is changing.... and i'm glad the military is recognizing this fact. after that incident, we were subjected to training that fit Iraq more; close quarters firing( firing while running, walking, especially with a 249 machine gun, is verry cool, not to mention good skills to put in your tool box), firing from moving vehicles, etc. so, to cap, t he lessons I learned from the firefight that I apply to FMA: 1. train with something/one to stimulate the adrenaline dump. it WILL open your eyes. 2. gross motor skills are underrated; streamline your movements. 3. pretty never wins the day. your fist/stick/knife doing damage does. Anyway, people, I have been monitoring eskrima digest for about 3-4 years now... i always look forward to what everyone has to say...
