Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dear Vic and Jere: I can't support your sentiments enough. There are scads of new Hapkido organizations and its is always the same hue and cry. After a while I wonder why it is that people must always split off from older organizations but always do it in the name of bringing practitioners closer together. For me it is much like the elecions here in the States where certain key issues (education, health care, taxes) are always brought up but never acted upon once the person is in office. In like manner, I have yet to see any of these new organizations ever actually address the matter of conflicts, promotion or revenues when they represent that this is what their goal is in being formed. Until quite recently I was working at supporting what I thought would be a new direction for the KHF. I now understand that all that is happening with that organization is how they will maintain and propagate their form of elitism internationally rather than nationally as before. This kind of tyranny I can get from my wife !! :-) I don't think we need a new organization. What we need is an older, established organization that says what it will do and then do what it said. FWIW. Anyway, I read the following edited post you submitted. Since I have in-laws visiting from Cebu, PI (who know Cacoy well), I was reminded of my last unfortunate bar fight that was unpreventable in 2002: <1. train with something/one to stimulate the adrenaline dump. it WILL open your eyes. 2. gross motor skills are underrated; streamline your movements. 3. pretty never wins the day. your fist/stick/knife doing damage does. > The adrenaline dump issue is something that Tony Blauer has explored. I agree when under stress, a lot of the forms, different techniques and such, goes out the window. Your fight lasts minutes or less, and you make basic and quick movements. Ground fighting also appears to be an issue. Anyway, I thought the Army soldier stationed in Iraq who posted the above para-phrased comment was on point. Later, McD... P.S. I took the 67 Chevelle SS out yesterday. Its got the original 396 and 4 speed Munice trans. Nuff said ! Keep the rubber down clown. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Michael Tomlinson p.s. I like the comment about farting some Hapkido sunshine by Kip McCormick,, I'm gonna use that one in my class.... if you don't mind.. P.s.s. Master Hilland is very astute with his post's and seems to hit the nail right on the head IMHO... _________________________________________________________________ Getting married? We are not an open organization, and eventually we will charge fees; however, unlike the KHF, those fees will be set up and dictated by our member schools which will vote on the situation. The KHf model in my mind is becoming more ineffectual for our needs. We do not intend on competing with them; however, at this point my intent also does not include supporting them. The organization appears to be becoming more xenophobic and I do not want to be a part of that. KOMA-USA will be distinguished by several factors... one of which will be a QMS, or a Quality Management System. The organization will follow the same corporate style strategies used by major pharmaceutical and manufacturing organizations. In the end, members will be viewed as clients, and school owners who are members are to be viewed as stakeholders, which in reality, is the actual situation. This may appear to be rather progressive, however this particular model has shown itself to be very effective in the corporate world. In my mind, we are martial arts professionals and KOMA-USA will be conducted as a professional organization. I am not indicating that any other organization is less than professional. I am indicating that I as a professional, and a martial artist, am greatly dissatisfied with what I view as the methods by which many of these organizations run. I, like Bruce, question the need for the "Confucian model" in any venture which involved the obtaining of capital, the running of an organization, and so forth. I do not anticipate an IPO or the like, but that is also subject to our success. Currently, unlike many organizations, I have teams assigned to develop specific attributes of various parts of KOMA-USA. These teams are composed of stakeholders. When these tasks are completed, they will be evaluated by the KOMA-USA leadership, which includes these stakeholders. The KHF has taken a stance which very clearly indicates that its primary mission is to support Koreans. I know that much of this information is not currently public, and I'm not sure what will be released, and what will not be. Our stance is similar in that our goal is to support our members, the difference being that each will be given the same respect and whatnot. Schools who are identified as stakeholders to a specific process, will be asked to participate in that process. The intent of this is to capture Deming's principles of 0 defects. Our clients must be involved. Of course, that involvement will diminish over time, as appropriate systems as put in place, as they will simply need to be reviewed for continual efficacy over time. Master Lim has indicated his support for this process, which is the primary reason we are affiliating with him on a business level. Further, Master Lim also has quite a bit in common with both myself and Master Patrick in regards to interests and training type. As mentioned, and I sincerely hope this clarifies, we are not intending on supporting any organization save for KOMA. We will support any legitimate organization which pursues excellence, as we desire it, but only so far in that they have compatible interests. We do not believe that any culture supercedes another in regards to its martial capability. We are interested in what we can do to further our ability, and that whatever process we use must be ethical. In closing, that you for giving me the opportunity to share with you some of our process. I sincerely hope this does in fact clarify our position somewhat.
