I've been real happy with it. They are running a special right now that expires June 4. Unlimited is typically $599 - now it's $299. That's the best price I've seen. Email me at tgordon@gordonmartialarts.com and I'll give you the discount code for the special. http://www.martialartsorganizer.com If you sign up, let them know I sent ya. Even though General Choi taught thousands of people the "flat line" method before adopting sine wave. By your insistence, it means they are frozen in time forever with the use of sine wave. If that's the case, the Chang Hun system is doomed for failure and "when" is the only question. I've seen tapes of many of the "greats" from the 60's and their technique was rather pitiful to that of today. 40 years from now, I'm thinking sine wave will be done away with or drastically improved. If you are still around, you will think they are "wrong" and insist the antiquated manner with sine wave is the only true way? Should someone develop an extra twist that generates even more power - they would be "wrong" by your stance. Yet, if provable, General Choi would have certainly adopted it had he been alive. General Choi said a lot of things. The vast majority of it was fairly well thought out and he was obviously an educated man. Regardless, unless you intend to hang on every word he said, I would not hang on "his last way being the only way." And I still have my suspicions that some of the changes done to ITF patterns were simply a marketing ploy for those that refused to join ITF or split off. If General Choi were alive today, would he add another twist to the forms so he could say the USTF is wrong since they split off from the ITF? We use the traditional Chang Hun patterns prior to sine wave. To my knowledge, the term "Chung Hun" is not copyrighted nor trademarked. The palm represents Moon and the fist represent Sun. When combined together it form the word "Ming" as in Ming dynasty. This is probably due to the fact that Shaolin trained martial artists had involved in anti-Manchurian movements. Regards, S. H. The one I am referring to is where the right fist meets the left palm at center body and the left fingers either fold or stay erect. What style uses that and where is it appropriate and inappropriate?...." I believe Bruce is correct. My instructor also indicated it was from Chinese roots. He went on to say in symbolized a balance of power and peace. As we were taught it, the open hand (peace) hid the closed fist (power) until the last moment and the form began. The form concludes withthe reverse, as peace was again established and the form ends. This could have been his way of using this salute to teach a lesson (which seems to have worked since I am quoting him after some 30 years). There was only one set of forms consisting of 3 forms total which he taught that used the opening. My spelling will be off but it was the Nianju form. I am told the name means to recoil. This makes sense in that the form consisted of tight hourglass stances and very powerful close punches with incredible snapping and recoiling properties. Long answer for short question. Back in 1996-1998 I used Blackbelt Management as sold through NAPMA and it was quite similar, But I think MV2 is still a little more flexible. Plan on a long saturday and a few cold ones to setup all the data, but it will be worth while once you start using the reports. Setting up the Inventory will take you a full weekend, but can go a little quicker if you paste and copy. Reports I use all the time Who's testing (any month or date range) Address Book email list (can paste to clipboard) Condensed belt order list Activity report (calls/appts/intros/enrolled) Source report (where do enrolements come from?) Attendance record single student (by date range) Can flag and unflag records for custom reports to honor the "no selling" rules (I think) email me privately and I'll send you the link to the site where you can download a 15 day trial. If you buy from them they just send you the unlock codes (like Intuit products). BTW, I'm jealous. I have one 15 y/o Brown belt to help me teach 35 students and I too work full time :-) Yours in Jung Do, Charles Richards www.mojakwan.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Notice the words "right" or "wrong" are not used. ****End of Disclaimer**** If Gen. Choi's org was ITF then I would say call it "ITF TKD". Gen. Choi called it Chang Hon before he added the sine wave. Therefore it is still Chang Hon TKD. If you are practicing the "before sine wave" style I would call it "Chang Hon Style TKD" It's all semantics. My old school practiced the Chang Hon forms (without sine wave). I loved it!! I broke lots of wood even without the sine wave. IMHO if you concentrate on where and when you focus your power within the technique you can generate plenty of power. Having said that, I have never been taught the sine wave so I cannot contribute a first hand experience on power generated by the sine wave. We practice the Pyong Ann (sp??) forms. Our org. calls it TKD or "Korean Karate" however many schools who practice these forms call it TSD (Tang Soo Do). I really don't care what other people call it. I seem to generate more power since I shaved my head. Utilizing the lower drag coefficient to recover lost power then redirecting into the technique. I think I'll call it "Bald Headed TKD" Brian "Kojack" Woodard --__--__-- Message: 9 From: "Michael Rowe" To: Date: Wed, 19 May 2004 09:14:23 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] RE: Corporations and Hapkido Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net You don't have to give a person what they want. You have to give them what they paid for. In the case of Hapkido instruction you have to give them quality instruction. The problem is that most Hapkido instructors really don't know how to teach. Teaching is a profession that takes special skills. Not every black belt is going to have these skills. It takes someone who is able to look at the students abilities, and gifts. Then take the material and present it in the best manner for that student. The vast majority of students will be able to learn from the general presentation in a group class. Those that can need to be encouraged to receive additional private lessons. This will enable the teacher to tailor the presentation for those special few. They can get it "their way." Quality does not need to be sacrificed. Of course the American public likes to feel as if they are making progress. There is no reason why you can't have more ranks in between ranks. The so called belt factory is a means that allows students to feel progress in more stages while hopefully getting a stronger student when it becomes time for black belt. Incredible guy, his knowledge and ability amazes me. One class recently we were standing chest to chest and he kicked me in the back of the head, still trying to figure that one out.
