Recycled or find a better position for myself, which I did, thank Heaven. In the old days you had complete loyalty to your company and they had complete loyalty to you, but times have changed. I have loyalty to my customers who pay me to do a job for them, and mostly to my family and myself. It's not as simple as 'let's get the cheapest employees we can.' Right now there are lots of folks re-thinking their offshore strategy because while you save money on salaries you spend it on management and correcting problems that come up from cultural differences and the difference in ability; plus you risk alienating your customers with reps who may not speak English like a native or understand exactly what you're describing to them. Bottom line is you need to be valuable to your employer, just as your employees need to be valuable to you. > Yes, I have the privilege of studying directly under GM Kim. How did he kick you - did he spin and catch you with his heel or lean back, lift his leg in front of you and then hook back? A fellow I used to know in Korea showed me how he could kick the head of someone holding someone else in front of them as a shield from very close range. The Korean fellow was about 5'5" and the guy he was kicking was at least 6'2" - it was very impressive! > The pictures - I'm still trying to get the names of the others. The Vietnam photos - are those from the very first Hapkido demo done in the '60s with GM Ji JanJae, Han BongSoo, Myung KwangShik, etc.? I've got the first Hapkido book from '67 (although mine is the '73 edition) and it has photos from that exhibition. I'm on about 7 big mailing lists including the Dojang_Digest, and I've been on the internet since about 1990, so I often get the emails that Jeffrey Kiral mentions. My computer is clean, no viruses. The bounced messages originated at a different place and then are bounced back to me because they have my email address on it. I doubt it is anything specifically aimed at us, but rather is the operating procedure of one virus or another. I belong to the USKMAF because Master West is my teacher. If his organization was ABC concrete and martial arts, I would not care. So often, I see people who want an organization for the sake of belonging to a group in Korea and therefore, they are 'authentic'. Yet, they never spent the years starting out as a white belt and going through the belts ranks and attending classes daily. I am always amazed in hapkido by the number of people who hold dan rank, yet they never attended hapkido classes on a regular basis under a qualified instructor. I even get emails rather consistently wanting me to certify someone in another part of the planet, who do not train with me at all. To add what Michael Rowe said, and I have said it before, dan rank is, in my opinion, a student rank, it does not make one a qualified teacher in the art. Of course, you are only going to a certain point until you learn to teach. Hapkidoin who are only concerned with certification, will join the flavor of the month organization. Those who really want to learn hapkido, will find a good teacher and the organization will be a by-product. Do not look for a good organization, look for a good teacher, it does not matter what your rank is - we are ALL students. Jere R. In fact I think its gotten worse. I have actually "important information from JR Wests' address and from Keith Wicker at his .edu address. I contacted both of them so they would know, but the biggest surprise was when I actually got "important information"----- from MYSELF!! Since the local library has up-to-the-minute virus protections and more firewalls than a high-rise nursing home I have been able to go there and actually open these files. To date I have found nothing in them except the virus. For myself the test is to send a "thank you" back. If it bounces that is that. If it doesn't (as in the case with JR) and he writes back asking "what information?" then not only am I made aware but he is, too. FWIW. Nope. That has never occurred and most likely never will. Ways to avoid getting a virus or worm??? One great way is to not use Microsoft Windows. If you must use Windoze then get the free virus s/w, free firewall, free spyware removers and install all critical patches (free) the same day they are released. Oh, and do not send or open attachments. Time to move off this topic. Living in the internet world is living in the virus world. Just be smart with your strategy and you too will never be infected.
