Not only am I glad to hear it's not just me who finds that the body doesn't work quite right at the start of the day, I am glad to hear that folks have found a way around it. This week I increased focus on my back and increased the amount of rolling I do. All in all I felt less sluggish (less bad?) by the time it came to do forms and drills. I think the change in focus, plus the assurance that it wasn't 'just me', it wasn't age, and was only partially the mileage were what made it a more productive week. Thanks again. ===== Anthony Boyd: Swordsman and English Teacher www.stormpages.com/haidonggumdo ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Sat, 5 Jun 2004 22:47:47 -0400 (EDT) From: "A. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Richard, You will be able to find places to train in every neighborhood - it's a big industry. Finding really good places to train is a bit harder, but patience and calmness can take care of that. If you do come to Seoul, I can help you find places to train in Haidong Gumdo (which I also offer classes in in English), or Gicheon. ===== Anthony Boyd: Swordsman and English Teacher www.stormpages.com/haidonggumdo ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Sat, 5 Jun 2004 23:03:31 -0400 (EDT) From: "A. This whole thing has been very interesting to watch. It is interesting how long the authorities were willing to look the other way while Kim Un-Yong was perceived as doing what he was doing for the good of Korea and the image of Korea. Once it was realized that he was doing what he was doing for the good of Kim Un-Yong, the hammer dropped with great efficacy and economy of motion. It's a riot to talk about this with taxi drivers! Concessions were made on account of Kim's age and failing health, in terms of the jail-term (which will still be in quite harsh conditions by all reports) he was fined in direct proportion to what he was proven to have taken in bribes (788 million won as of the paper on Friday morning). The decision about punishment for the embezzlement of 3+ billion won was less clearly explained. All-in-all when someone is supporting/representing an organization which has children grow up mouthing promises to be honest and have integrity, you would think that honesty and integrity would be traits that they felt were fundamentally important. Worse, it is on this very visible man's model that most other KMA organizations have been built. ===== Anthony Boyd: Swordsman and English Teacher www.stormpages.com/haidonggumdo ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca --__--__-- Message: 4 From: "Jared Circle" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Sun, 06 Jun 2004 06:28:28 -0400 Subject: [The_Dojang] RE: where to train in Seoul Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I am an English Teacher here in Seoul and have been for the past year. It was Korean Martial Arts that brought me here and I have made several good connections in Hapkido. In particular, I know of a gym in Balsan (Line number 5 two stops from Gimpo Airprt) that offers English instruction under a qualified Master of Kuk Sul Kwon Hapkido who teaches a combination of Martial Sports including Tae Kwon Do style kicking, Judo, and hapkido techniques. The style is derived from Yong Moo Do which is a modern martial sports style developed at Yongin University. He is a recent graduate of Yongin University (class of 2003, majoring in HKD) and runs a casual style of gym that is well suited to foriegners of all ability levels who are interested in training. You can reach me at 010-3981-5455 or through the Digest, but phone will be easier. Hope to hear from you soon. For hapkido, John Johnson can hook you up -- he's a great guy and knows the hapkido scene extremely well. Grab ahold of a Saturday addition of the Korea Herald (not internet version) and check the classifieds -- there's a plethora of instructors offering classes in English in hapkido, taekwondo, jujitsu, etc. If you're in the military, shoot me an email and I'll hook you up. Best of luck -- Korea's a fantastic place to train.
