If you truely believe this, I invite you to come to any of our orgs schools, you will be most pleasantly suprised (or not) to find this to be a false supposition. Not to mention that a generalization of any one art is usually wrong, but all arts from Japan/Korea being generalized like that is just plain ignorant. Maybe what you wrote is not what you really mean, I hope so...." I am not sure about "almost every Korean or Japanese martial arts instructor teaches just like described..." I can't speak for the Japanese teachers, but I have NEVER been taught as described. Now I have never ventured outside of traditional Korean mudo in the Korean arts, but my experience, the way I was taught, my teaching style, has NEVER been just Play, etc. I have always been a fan of the way the Philippine arts use weapons, but not so much about their unarmed techniques. Just my personal preferences. That's all. But I will state that traditional hapkido is also an integrated system that teaches many aspects from the same theories and theories of basic motion. As I am sure other arts do also. But then again, we have gotten to the point where some people will hand out dan certificates like candy at Halloween if you attend their seminar. Many of these people have never even attended a class in that art and everyone is concerned with their style and not learning the art. Stating what someone's rank is has also gotten to the point of being meaningless, these days, I now ask "how long have you been in this art?" Maybe this is why the KMA are getting a bad reputation. Not everyone takes the time to truly learn the art these days. For some it is all about rank and grandstanding or posturing. But their are MANY KMA teachers out their teaching things correctly, you won't see them in the list of who's who for the month, nor their ads in every magazine, but they are quietly doing things correctly and truly teaching a unified art to their students. <<>> Jere R. Does anyone know any good exercises to help strengthen that muscle and most importantly, how to prevent it from happening again? It's really painful.... I belt test in two weeks and would like to be able to move on. I must admit that I miss the visiting and training time which we have had together as past Simmudo seminars there in Rochester, MN. As you know, I am extremely busy with the NKMAA and the Kong Shin Bup (TM) training, however, I do hope to be able to visit you in the near future and I look forward to hearing about your experiences and "fun" with this past seminar with Grandmaster Pan Gon Song. We were not told that he actually walked away from OP Oulette, just that he was part of 2nd ID and that he just up and one day walked on over to N. Korea. They did parade him around and show him off in all of their propaganda videos, etc., and even lavished him with North Korean prostitutes for a few weeks. The 2nd ID then found his headless body floating down the Imjin River shortly after that... I don't know if that is true or not. The story that Ray posted did not mention that, but that is what we were told. My guess is that Kip would have more info on the validity of what I was told when I was there... Those pics bring back some good memories though! Could you possibly post some more detailed stuff about the seminar, or even e-mail me direct @ scoobyd6@hotmail.com. I'm in Australia and, while TKD and Hap Ki Do are fairly popular out here, it's a pretty limited amount of interaction between my school (Burridge Martial Arts Academy - TKD) and the other schools here in Perth. If you could pass on any tips from Master Hodder's seminar it would be much appreciated! Master Khalid Khan, has sparred against various SPORT martial artists of both Korean and Japanese and Okinawan, that were unable to block his attacks, which Serrada is designed to accomplish, so all he needs is Serrada. Although he has no depth of knowledge into the other arts, Serrada is his core art. That is the way I understand what he has to say. I know Master Khalid Khan and trained with him a few years ago. Khalid is a nice fellow, but, ummm, he is not a fighter. Yes, he knew the basics of Serrada, but he would not have been able to get the better of very good to good fighters regardless of their style. imho He knows a bit of silat, but he does not have a "depth of knowledge into the other arts"... save perhaps his claim to be able to channel any dead martial arts masters/grandmasters in their given style. Yes, channel -any- dead martial arts masters/grandmasters in their given style and demonstrate their style to perfection. Oh, and he has posted the "death spots" of many martial artists that he has met and many that he has never met. Places where if they are touched they will die. And no I'm not telling folks where my death spot is... :) You run into all kinds here in California.
