I'm a 45 year old 2nd degree black belt trainee instructor with the Association of Christian Taekwondo Schools. (ACTS) I'm about 2/3 through my training period for becoming a certified instructor, but the school I was teaching at had to close. I got most of my teaching experience during our Saturday class and some during our 7PM Thursday class. Our "Mother " school ( Christ First Taekwondo") in the same town is still going strong, but they don't have Saturday classes anymore and both their beginner classes start too early in the evening for me to help teach. ( I work late most of the time) Another problem I have is that I frequently get off too late to make it to class for my personal training. My instructors are pretty understanding since they are all volunteers and have jobs themselves, but none of them have to miss as much as me. I'm pretty good about training on my own, but I sometimes get behind on the curriculum and have to play "catch up" Has anyone ever been in a similar situation? Any suggestions for continuing my pursuit of becoming a certified instructor and keeping up my training? Chong. He is just a money grubbing, low life, no teaching, putz. No, just joking; really all he wants is your money. Good TKD schools are few and far between in the valley of the sun. At least for the area you are talking about: Phoenix, Glendale, ? Most of the TKD dojangs are in the Tempe area. There are many good gung-fu schools there. With teachers like Kenny Perez. One of the instructors I trained with, Jerry Cook, now teaches at Pierce Family Gung-Fu / Kajukenbo. http://www.kajukenbo.org/schools/AZ/Pierce.html One other instructor, and Jerry Cook taught with him, is Jinheung Li. Hope this helps some. Mike --__--__-- Message: 6 Date: Fri, 23 Jul 2004 12:10:10 -0400 (EDT) From: "A. The training is definitely better and much more structured - not just rushing you through to belt test. Anyway, my thoughts..... Grnflea We are here on Earth to do good to others. Cutting, Demo, Combat? Straight or curved? Are you looking for "Gum or Do"? If you want to cut then a "Practical Katana" would be a suggestion. Forged and Tempered. Price range from $60 to $6,000 You can get a decent beginners cutting sword for under $200 Sincerely, Kevin Janisse --__--__-- Message: 9 From: Ray Terry Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Off to compete To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Fri, 23 Jul 2004 15:20:13 -0700 (PDT) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > The 2004 World Haidong Gumdo International Championship will be held from Sunday, July > 25th to Tuesday, July 27th in Korea's scenic Gangwon Province.
