Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I just want to ask KO-Online (IIRC)two questions. First: if the post which mentioned going to Korea and "bringing back 6-10 swords" was intended to be literal. My information to date has this (personally taking swords into and out of Korea) as being impossible barring two exceptions. I would be interested in the specifics of your plan in case there is more to the procedure of which I am unaware. Second: In your post you mention they are forged for gumbub and jipdan baegi. Does this mean you plan to obtain sam-gak-to? If so, you should make certain to notify your customers that they will not be able to cut hard objects (bamboo, etc) with these swords and that the weight will not accurately resemble that of a true sword (as they are almost two pounds lighter). ===== Anthony Boyd: Swordsman and English Teacher www.stormpages.com/haidonggumdo ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Wed, 28 Jul 2004 01:04:11 -0400 (EDT) From: Lois Knorr To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] NKMAA Seminar Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Master Dewitt said: '...DeWitt Martial Arts will be having the annual NKMAA Seminar here in Brainerd, MN., on Sept 11th...Grandmaster Rudy Timmerman has made it clear that 'everyone must have a great time'... Hope this helps. I have worked extensively on both suspended wood floor and padded carpet, and a little on the puzzle mats. I would strongly recommend the suspended wood floor if there is any way. It is comfortable to work out on, easier on the knees than any other flooring and you can do takedowns, throws and groundwork for realistic training for dans directly without mats. You will still want some mats for throws and groundwork classes and for gups. If you and your friends or students can put it down, the price is not too bad, less than a buck a square foot. The carpet is probably the cheapest, but it won't last too long and may need restretching periodically. The other problem with carpet is it will soak up the sweat and in 6 months the place will smell like a school gym locker room. The puzzle mats might grow on me with time, but I just didn't care for them. I don't know if you have read it, but I believe it is in his big text,"This is Karate" I am thinking of( I am in my office now), he gave a really sort of down to earth look at his career in the martial arts and some of the promotional things he did like the bull fights. I felt it gave some insight into Oyama and his philosophy. Its worth a read if you can find a copy. Danny Dunn Craig said: <<<<<<<<<<<<< It would be interesting to have a true glimpse of the man behind the legend. At any rate, he still represents somewhat of a source of inspiration to me. He represents the classic image of the "old school karate man" who has forged his mind and body through total commitment, hard training and self-denial. Not too many of those cats are around these days.>>>>>>>>>>>>> --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2004: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
