There are several things to remember if you do get a chance to work out in a host school, and I am sure there are more things to think of and some of the following are probably very obvious to 99.9% of us: You are a guest - be on your best behavior and be humble. (I do apologize for this remark but it's so important I don't see how I could not mention it) Instructors are wary of strangers working with their students because they don't know if you are going to be a jerk and hurt their students in training. They don't want their students hurt by some guy who is in there to show off and will be gone in a day or so leaving an injured student. Insurance may not allow an instructor to permit you to work out with their class. Try to learn the techniques the way they teach them, be open minded. Carry a white belt along with your normal belt. They may request you wear a white belt or to wear your own belt. When ever someone came into my school I always wanted them to wear their proper belt. If asked, be willing to share techniques with the class or the instructor. Be prepared to explain a bit about your system (if you are in a dochang/dojo/kwoon other than your core system). BUT, don't interrupt and say something like "we do it this way". > or is it even a good idea? >From my point of view it's an excellent idea. In fact if you can work out with a group that is from a different system than your primary system all the better. A Judo class, or perhaps Arnis, Penjak Selat, Ju-jitsu, Karate, or any other system. By learning about their style you may learn something about your own style. Look outside of the box :-) Back in the 60's when ever I would go on vacation I would carry my uniform and look for a club to practice. It started me to appreciate the value of cross training. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Most hapkido dojang would be happy to have you as a guest. We often have guests who appear for a day, or stay of a week. We have never charged anything for that. But some will, just a simple call to the dojang when you arrive in that town will answer your questions. Jere R. It was very interesting, but I did manage to fall asleep before it was over. One interesting portion was footage of the North Korean assassination attempt on Park Chung-hee in which Park's wife was killed. That was the first time I had seen that on film. This prestigious event is sanctioned by the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) and is opened to all Taekwon-Do Black Belt holders, regardless of their affiliation. Holders of Colored Belts can also compete on this occasion by taking part in the 1st Orlando International Friendship Taekwon-Do Cup. The registration forms will be posted on our Web site from July 1st, 2004. The program and list of divisions are available at: tkd-itf.org/orlando2004.htm, as well as a short invitation letter (practitioners) ([acricon_.gif] 88 Ko) that you may wish to post or give to your students. Our goal in organizing this innovative event is to promote better mutual understanding among TKD practitioners and organizations around the world. We hope this initiative will encourage the development of friendship and harmony in the international Taekwon-Do family. Our expectations are more than 1,500 competitors from more than 60 countries. Therefore, we are looking forward to your participation to this major event in the world of Tae Kwon Do. You can, of course, expect high quality installations at the Disney's Sports Complex, and we guarantee professional on-site management of the tournament, including respect of the competition schedule and fairness in judging. Since Florida - particularly Orlando and Disney World is famous for sunny weather and plenty of wonderful attractions, you and your members may wish to take this opportunity to vacation with your families before or after the World Cup. In order to ensure a comfortable stay, we are offering special package rates (including registration or admission fee for the tournament, hotel accommodation, and three meals per day) for you, your members, and their families. To benefit from these special offers, all the registrations must be received by October 8th 2004. Please note that to be participating in our tournament, you must purchase a package. However, Florida residents can register for the tournament only. Furthermore, we are currently recruiting umpires for the tournament. The umpires will receive a complimentary 2-night stay (November 19th & November 20th, 2004) with a 2- day meal plan. If you are interested on this matter for your officials please contact Master Wim Bos, ITF Chairman of the tournament & Umpire Committee, by email at masterbos@itf.fastwebnet.it We invite you and your members to visit the official ITF Web site for information about the event, the schedule, including tournament, workshops & seminars, golf tournament and other activities, the installations at the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, accommodations, and attractions in the Orlando area. Please note that if your group needs entry visas for the U.S.A., applications for visas must be submitted to the nearest American Embassy at least 90 days before scheduled departure. The organization committee has made an agreement with Disney, and we will be pleased to provide you with official letters as requested. Finally, for more information or assistance, please contact my assistant, Ms. Nancy Ruel, by e-mail at n.ruel@tkd-itf.org. I am looking forward to seeing you in Orlando. Greetings everyone: I wish to thank all DD members who joined me in a day of fun and training in Oregon. I truly enjoyed meeting all of you, and it is great to have some more new faces to put with familiar names. I thank Kevin and his wife for making the seminar possible, and I look forward to seeing the pic of the DD members or the group. Glad to know all of you made it home safely.
