Any current or former Shotokan people here? I was thinking that TSD MDK's Kicho forms were pretty much a knock off of Karate's basic movement forms, the Taikyoku kata. I know that Hwang Kee claimed to have created them in 1947, but.?. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: DSCROLEY26@aol.com Date: Wed, 8 Sep 2004 18:51:42 EDT To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: Three Hurricanes in a row The_Dojang digest, Vol 11 #374 - 4 msgs Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Man I don't live in Florida, but here in Ky it has been pretty miserable to. When Ginchin Funakoshi introduced karate to mainland Japan he modified the Pinan katas and renamed them "Heian" in Japanese. Additionally the Shotokan system he founded changed Pinan I to Heian II and Pinan II to Heian I. That is why Tang Soo Do and Shotokan do very similar versions. There is some discussion whether Itosu Sensei developed the Pinans from Kusanko and Jae nam or if they were developed from a mysterious kata known as "Chanan". bernard --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2004: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
