This is a test question for Dans(thats Dahns) and red belts in our org. Also, in our org the Pyung Ahn is re-assembled into Jae Nam and performed as part of the first Dan pre-test and test. In doing this the practitioner hopefully learns HAS pyung ahn. Respectfully, George _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! He wore a whitebelt. In his book published in 1949 he is pictured demonstrating side kick while wearing a white belt. I will have to find the date (In the mid 50's) when do-bok trim was started in Moo Duk Kwan. This was the first time anyone in Moo Duk Kwan wore a colored belt. JCGet more from the Web. The Korean war had destroyed the country. Homes Businesses, and families were devastated. I can not give you specific examples because I was not told and have no references I just know that Kwan Jang Nim HC Hwang was there although he was young and he reflected on what his father Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee had told him He just explained that Gen Choi made it easier for instructors that would move to the Tae Kwon Do Association. I can only assume it was by grants, jobs or some means within the power of his position. JCGet more from the Web. Passai's creator is unknown but the date of origin is the mid 1500's Nai Han Ji hyungs are believed to have developed approx. 900 years ago and although the creator is not recorded the forms originate from the Kang Yu Ryu. For this reason it is reasonable to asume that its founder Jang Song Kye was the creator....." Can you help me out? I have not been able to find any information that supports this information. Here are some things to consider. 1.) Prior to the 14th century and the immigration of "The 36 Families" there is no record of a boxing style in Okinawa (See: Okinawa:History of an Island People). There are suggestions that some indigenous MA existed and the some members of the Ming embassey I mention may have been proficient in Chinese boxing. This may have produced some martial science or tradition. 2.) The 18th Century Ching governmental official known as Ku Shan Ku is reported to have taught Chinese Boxing and this material may or may not have been the foundation for the Okinawan form by the same name. Forms performed in Okinawa prior to this date cannot be documented, which is to say that the use of kata to instruct in the amalgam of indigenous art and Chinese boxing (aka:Okinawa-Te) does not seem to pre-date 1700. 3.) I am not sure what exactly "Kang Yu Ryu" is but the Ryu-Ha system did not get into full swing until well into the Tokugawa Period (1600-s to 1867). If we are truly speaking of a "ryu" I doubt sincerely that we are talking about an originator from over 900 years ago, nor might that person have been Japanese which the term "ryu" suggests. I could really use some resources to support your comments in detail as your post suggests connections based on oral tradition which is not corroborated by historical fact. Help? On October 9th and 10th I will host Dojunim Han Jae Ji, 10th Dan, for a 2-day Sin Moo Hapkido seminar. It has been about 10 years since DJN has been in the DFW area. This is a rare and perhaps once in a lifetime opportunity to train with the founder. They are VERY good Hapkidoists who practice and traing the right way. If I was closer to the left coast and not dealing with these hurricanes I would definately attend. Looks like I am not going to be able to get over your way this year. I have been busy of late with reorganizations and planning dan tests and championships, ect, and have had little time to post up until the past couple of days. Going back through some older editions, I saw your post on classes and time. I understand where you are coming from. As I said, I realize I am blessed to be in the situation I am in. The only other thing I can offer is always make time for your kids, especially while they are young. Mine are just about on their own now, and I don't regret any time I spent with them. Hope I will be able to make it over your way next year. Just because you are a former student in the Moo Duk Kwan does not mean you can leave the organization and still claim a connection. In an earlier post I gave an analogy of Walmart. If I worked there 20 years and then quite to open my own store. That would be fine, but if I called it Walmart I would be in violation of Trademark and Registration laws, and just because I had Walmart on my sign does not mean it is a Walmart store. The Moo Duk Kwan name and Flag (LOGO) are currently trademarked The name Soo Bahk Do and the Name Moo Duk Kwan are registered as well as the Soo Bahk Do Logo. The Tang Soo Do name is listed as a common law trade name and is still enforceable. I will search on you list site, and I will contact Soo Bahk Do headquarters to follow up. I like to confirm all information as true and factual. I agree that it is always and honor to meet with him and he is truly amazing to watch. My question is in what capacity was your meeting. Were you a Moo Duck Kwan member at the time, or did you attend a Moo Duck Kwan sponsored event. I am curious because Kwan Jan Nim does not teach clinics or seminars to none Moo Duck Kwan members. I did see one exception in Korea at the 50th anniversary of the Moo Duck Kwan were all former members were invited to the celebration and the Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee conducted the clinic. I believe that info is in the list archives. Reminds me of my early years in TKD MDK when, as I recall, we worn green, (maybe blue?), red and finally black trim on our doboks. Of course you couldn't buy doboks already trimmed that way so you had to do the sewing yourself. What a pain... :) Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 14 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Fri, 10 Sep 2004 08:46:05 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [The_Dojang] sinmoo.com Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net If you teach Sin Moo Hapkido please make sure you are listed at: http://sinmoo.com Drop me a line if you wish to be added. Were you a Moo Duck Kwan > member at the time, or did you attend a Moo Duck Kwan sponsored event. After calling ahead first, I visited him while he was teaching a class. I used to fly into Newark regularly and stay in Florham Park, NJ. The Springfield dojang is nearby. Took me a while to find it tho, even with the address, as I wasn't expecting it to be in a racquetball gym. He introduced me to his top master student and the class and I then watched as the class prepared for an upcoming tourny. This was approx 6 or 7 years ago. Master Hwang was very nice and respectful, even after I told him that I had come up in a MDK dojang, TKD MDK... :) I think he liked that I had visited the SBD MDK in Seoul, met with the instructors there, was invited up to the 3rd floor offices (where Hwang Kee's office was) and attended a class there later on. Do you know what ever happened to Master K.Y. Seen there in Seoul? He doesn't seem to be at the SBD MDK in Seoul anymore.?.?.
