It is really very sad. I am a hapkidoin, I am not a MDK practitioner and never have been. However I know some VERY talented tangsoodo, moodukkwan folks (that are on this list) that have nothing to do with this particular organization that the gladewater soobahkdo individual represents (BTW, if I remember, Gladewater is a small east Texas town between Tyler and Longview). Our goal in mudo is to spread what we do, not isolate it and take control of it and say it's mine! How can you tell someone who has spent 3, 4, or more decades in art that they can no longer use the name or the logo? The only mention of why this organization wants to monopolize the art, the names or the symbols of this fine tradition is that they want "to be recognized as the only connected organization to the founder and to protect the integrity and purity of what Grandmaster Hwang Kee spent his life developing" according to J. Cox. This is the USA, not Korea; nevertheless, each teacher has students and their own lineage. Everyone who touches the art ads something to it. It continues to change and grow - if you let it. There are many fine organizations promoting the same art. There is nothing wrong with that. Do we want our heritage to be one of sharing what we know with anyone willing to learn without any strings attached or do we want our legacy to be one with a history of legal battles that has nothing to do with the actual practice? Isolationism is NOT beneficial to the martial arts, the teachers, or the students, in any form or fashion. Just my opinion. Jere R. There are NO hotels available from the Gulf coast to Memphis......601-856-8487 will find me. AND, before we go: I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but can we PLEASE stop referring to people in the third person with the honorific "nim" at the end of their title....Their title is "sa bum" or "kwan jang", and "nim" is only used when speaking directly TO them, and not ABOUT them.....Thanx JRW www.hapkido.com --__--__-- Message: 4 From: "Dennis McHenry" Date: Tue, 14 Sep 2004 22:28:25 GMT To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Hwang Kee Photo Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I noticed on one of the other photos it lists "Hwang Kee, Victor Martinov, Jae Jul Shin, Chuck Norris", when actually it looks like Jae Joon Kim, not Jae Jul Shin. http://community.webshots.com/photo/17626109/17626109yKPDFmOGyv Mac ________________________________________________________________ Get your name as your email address. It still is unethical...and I won't participate in its use.  I don't understand why people would  want to use the name of an organization they are not a member of.  Listing it in your lineage is one thing...going around saying you are MDK is another thing...and hanging a shingle with MDK on it outside your school is something else all together.
