I write to encourage you! I started toward the end of last year, attend three times weekly and have just achieved High Red Belt level. I am now working toward testing for the Brown Belt, probably by late October. Next month, I will celebrate my 72nd birthday. It's never too late! I'm now going about 4 times per week. I'm 28 years old and I'm looking forward to the day I get my black belt. It will most likely take me 4 years or so to achieve my goal but I'll hang in there, as long as God will let me. I really enjoy all of the posts in this e-mail digest. I also started training at 39 and just got promoted to 2nd Dahn TKD last week under Grandmaster Hodder. It has been one of the most rewarding and fun things I have ever done. Keep training! I also wanted to thank, as Mr. Martin calls it, my posse, Lawren Hasten, Mr. Martin, and Frank Davis for all of the Sunday mornings they gave up to help me train. I have found consistency is the key to growing a large school and maintaining quality. Word of mouth and reputation is why some of my students travel from Tyler, and Longview where there are schools much larger in there own cities. I agree with you that quality is most important. Feel good adds, and martial arts day care are fine for making money but do little for creating good quality martial artists. As for your potential I believe 1% of you cities population is a very obtainable goal without advertising at all. I rarely advertise, although I know many that do. I suggest just teach quality instruction and let you reputation advertise for you.
