The same clothes that many of our warriors wear. So, tell me again how thread and fabric figures into this equation? A bad person will do wrong irregardless of the uniform they wear. At the same time, a warrior will do what's right regardless of what they wear, and regardless of who's watching. A warrior is the product of what he or she believes and carries in their heart. It's not something that "switches on and off" as easily as changing duds, and the warrior doesn't need symbols to be reminded of the duty that they've accepted. Warrior = no uniform required. I competed as a "youth" (starting at age 38) and got to the point where I had the same realization as yourself; I had no desire to get in the ring in a tournament setting any more. I think you are NOT being selfish, perhaps just realistic. I still love to help the kids (those under 40) get ready to fight. And I'm all for slipping on the Hogu and "lettin' 'er rip"... But only in the classroom setting, tournaments just have no appeal to me any longer except to coach and judge. I know several guys well past my age who do the tourney circuit all the time, so it's not the age thing, I feel like it's a matter of personal preference. As for helping your school, just attend the tourneys and do all you can to help, that is every bit as important as spewing testosterone laden sweat all over a mat. Plus, I really sucked at tournament sparring. Good luck in whatever you decide, go with your heart, it won't let you down. dave weller --__--__-- Message: 7 Date: Tue, 5 Oct 2004 17:03:49 -0700 (PDT) From: scott haller To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] (no subject) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net kat... thanks for the kind words. i cant see the ortho til wed 13 oct. til then i'm in this soft, half cast thing from my ankle to just above my knee. 90 percent of my pain comes from the knee cap area where they reamed out the bone and started feeding in the pin. hurts like heck. the cast i get should be a walker from the ankle to below the knee. the ortho said i only need to be in that for a week, then i'm on my way. i don't want to be a sideshow at the dojang. i'm debating the timing of going back. i'll use the example of your female student as a guide. scott --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? A hapkido school would be great, but it doesn't have to be a hapkido school. I'd rather visit a school with a quality instructor, regardless of style. I trained for two weeks in an Okinowan style when I did a rotation out of town for a month. I was a first degree at the time and it was a great learning experience. So any school with a quality instructor would be something I would consider. Thanks for your help.
