The guy in question is Tommy Carruthers. I don't know too much about him except that he's a Jeet Kune Do guy that lives somewhere across the pond...Ireland or Scotland if I'm not mistaken. He's known for his speed, and he seems very quick from the clips that I've watched of him in the past. FWIW, I believe he's an "Original" JKD guy...very much invested in doing things the way Bruce Lee did them. You can see it in the way he dresses (there's that uniform again), and the way that he's expressing his strikes in a "strong side lead" flavor. The lead hand and foot does 90% of the work, as opposed to a more balanced delivery structure as seen in FMA, boxing, Kenpo, etc. I don't think there's a Filipino/Indonesian or Kenpo connection in what he's doing. And yes, he does tend to skip around on his feet when he moves as James had pointed out. I think that's his way of trying to put impetus into the strikes. Sort of like Dempsey's drop stepping as an example, but in a more clipped fashion. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Steve Smith broke his Fibula at the Start of this NFL Season, and he has already had his Surgery to stabilize it. He will be coming back soon! HOPE THIS MOTIVATES YOU! :) GET BETTER SOON! Steve 9.13.04 Panthers' Smith undergoes Leg (Fibula) Surgery Steve Smith had surgery Tuesday on his broken left leg, leaving the Carolina Panthers searching for replacements for their top receiver and punt returner. Both candidates — Keary Colbert at receiver and Chris Gamble at returning kicks — are rookies. “Obviously that’s a blow to lose a guy like Steve Smith,” coach John Fox said. “Obviously he’s a big-play guy for us both offensively and in the kicking game. But as is football, there’s injuries.” Smith, who signed a $27.5 million contract extension in the off season, was Carolina’s game breaker. He led the Panthers last season with career highs in receptions (88), yards receiving (1,110) and touchdowns (7). He also averaged 28.1 yards a kickoff return. He broke his leg late in the fourth quarter of Carolina’s 24-14 Monday night loss to Green Bay when he rolled his ankle as he was being tackled after a catch. Smith made his way through the locker room on a pair of steel crutches after the game, needing help from a Panthers staff member to put his sock and shoe on his good foot. Fox said he was unsure how long Smith will be out, but broken fibula’s typically take at least eight weeks to heal. So the Panthers will turn to Colbert, their second-round pick out of Southern California. Colbert was inactive against the Packers, but is expected to make his first start Sunday at Kansas City. In limited preseason action, Colbert caught eight passes and averaged 34.6 yards per catch. “We feel good about Keary Colbert,” Fox said. “Steve Smith was a big-play guy and really everything Keary Colbert’s showed us, he’s a big-play guy. He’s going to get his opportunity.” Gamble returned kicks last season at Ohio State, totaling 92 yards on 20 punt returns and 115 yards on six kickoff returns. The Panthers used him once in the preseason, when he returned one punt for 2 yards. Carolina will also try Eugene Baker at returning kicks this week, but he likely won’t see any game action because he’s a receiver and the Panthers already have four who are active each week. So the job will probably fall to Gamble by default, and the first-round pick is already adjusting to starting in the secondary. espn.com _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The same clothes that many of our warriors wear. So, tell me again how thread and fabric figures into this equation? A bad person will do wrong irregardless of the uniform they wear. At the same time, a warrior will do what's right regardless of what they wear, and regardless of who's watching. A warrior is the product of what he or she believes and carries in their heart. It's not something that "switches on and off" as easily as changing duds, and the warrior doesn't need symbols to be reminded of the duty that they've accepted. Warrior = no uniform required. Mr Stovall, I agree with your sentiment 100%. The uniform won't make a bad person good, or the lack of one, a good person bad, but a good person putting on his uniform must surely connect to the principles they stand for. A soldier puts on their uniform and they're ready for battle, a police officer dons their gear and they're out there to serve and protect. When I put on my dobok, I train with the passion of following my path. No, warriors don't need to wear uniforms to be warriors, but when they do choose to wear them, I believe it is a symbol to themselves and others "of what he or she believes and carries in their heart." Although we may not need them, symbols do remind us of our duty and loyalties. What is more powerful a reminder than belting out your nation's anthem while proudly watching its flag flying overhead? Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction and there's nothing much you can do about it. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2004: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
