He's even starting to develop something that looks like a roundkick :-) But most importantly he was attentive and tried every technique for the entire session. Being still 4 y/o (5 in December)and only 39# he got knocked down a few times, but got up with a smile. And boy you should have seen the excitement when he got his own Hogu and gear bag Friday night :-) We are going to try and attend a similar event in Jacksonville, FL 12/11/04, and another GREAT TKD event to be in Macon, GA 1/15/05 (tentative). Then it's off to the KY AAU qualifier 2/5/05. See you on the road. Charles Richards aka proud papa :-) --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Mon, 15 Nov 2004 09:06:50 -0500 From: "Burdick, Dakin R" To: Subject: [The_Dojang] Hal Whalen Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hi Folks! I finally got to meet Hal this weekend when he came down to DePauw University in Indiana. He was a lot of fun on the mat, constantly joking, and had a lot of good stuff to teach. Loved his variation on kotegaeshi (an outward wrist twist)! For weapons work, we did cane, baton, knife, and danbong. I always love the empty hand stuff best, but I learned new knife techniques as well that we'll be playing with quite a while.:) It was also good to see someone using the danbong, especially one with a cord. I learned some of that with Maung Gyi and thought it was really useful. Dr. Gyi described it as the handle for a rice bag (loop the cord around the mouth of the bag, hold onto the wooden handle). A simple weapon, but useful. The seminar was $30 for 6 hours, so it is obvious Hal doesn't do it for the money. :) All in all, a great day on the mat.
