We may be building our own trap. Certainly, we are welcoming our own divisive fragmentation. I fear we would be inviting just another KHF to be formed by this action. I thought we were in the midst of congratulating ourselves for awakening to the ridiculousness of meaningless judgment by corrupt or prejudiced control. Why would we invite the reinvention of the same?........" OK, let me stop you right there and see if I can give you an answer. If a person, unknown to you, shows up at an event and wants to participate in the event would it help for you to be able to ask a few basic questions to determine whether the event would be safe and appropriate for that student? If people wanted to discuss Hapkido from a technical rather than political or philosophical point of view would it not help to have us all recognizing the same "thing" and calling it by the same name? I have noticed that every time the idea of standardizing what we do comes up people immediately worry about losing conrol of their individual fiefdoms, that there is talk of someone else being in authority or having to defer to someone else. Given the past history I can appreciate these fellings. But I also notice that talk such as this keeps us from having a single label to identify even our most basic techniques. Thus, when we start talking about Hapkido from a technical standpoint we spend half our time defining what it is that we are talking about. Thoughts? BTW: I have begun a series of pages on a Minimal Standard on my website (www.midwesthapkido.com). As always, comments are welcome. He is still actively involved in promoting TSD and also still gets on the floor in Dobak. He is a font of TSD knowledge, very friendly & approachable, and has always talked positive about Hwang Kee. [Of course I am a tad bais, as he is my instructor.] I believe he was also given his 9th dan Kukkiwon a while back when the WTF was trying to bring him over to TKD. It is not something he talks about as he considers himself TSD. Dana WMDKTSD Fed. I ride a bicycle to work. that's 10 miles and then 5-6 mile form work to the dojang. it always feels good once there and I also feel great most of the time once I have finished. although I have left the dojang with bruised ribs and feet that really hurt. which is no fun when you have to ride all the way home. I recently stopped training because our school closed. I am currently in HKD limbo. But that is not why I write today. I have a friend who is looking for a HKD instructor in the Richmond VA. area. Also anything round DC might work, as she works in DC. Please any leads would mean a lot. Thanks in advance. By the 1960's however the unification was being completed and Tang Soo Do began to be recognized not as a generic term but as a specific style or system separate from Tae Kwon Do, and it was recognized as being founded by Hwang Kee Kwan Jang Nim. I believe most of the senior Koreans will agree with this, and most Tang Soo Do publications recognize Hwang Kee as the founder of the art of Tang Soo Do. I do realize however because the name was not created by him many will argue with this. I too find that being on the mat gives me energy I had not thought I had, and most times I end up teaching until somebody point out to me I am in overtime. That is how we end up in the parking lot at the Jackson thing during lunch:) I have also found that getting into politics and paperwork gets me down instead of getting energized. I guess that is why NKMAA does not get into politics lol.
