You know at the current shaolin temple, they do practice TKD. Jye Ray Terry wrote: Muju to Link With Shaolin Temple The Korea Times By Cho Jin-seo Staff Reporter 12-28-2004 17:00 Muju County signed an agreement with Defeng city of China to form an international network of taekwondo and kung fu, the county office announced Tuesday. Muju, a mountainous region in South Cholla Province, is bidding to host the Taekwondo Park, which will include construction of a gymnasium, training facilities and a taekwondo hall of fame with a 166.4-billion-won budget. Defeng of Henan Province is located near the Shaolin Temple complex, which serves as the headquarters of kung fu, a Chinese martial art. "We will make Muju and Defeng sister cities very soon," Muju county official Jeon Byung-soon said. "And I'm sure that we will win the Taekwondo Park project, too." Both sides agreed to improve friendships and foster the exchange of information, but the agreement didn't specify detailed future plans. The Taekwondo Park project is planned for completion by 2013. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism will announce the winner of the bid this week after making on-site inspections on the three candidates _ Muju, Kyungju of South Kyongsang Province and Chunchon of Kangwon Province. _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list, 1800 members The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net Copyright 1994-2004: Ray Terry and Martial Arts Resource Standard disclaimers apply http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? I personally confirmed this yesterday before wrting this post. All filming is complete the final cover pictures with Doju Ji were resently finished. 1st & 2nd Dan will be out soon with 3rd and 4th Dan to follow. Alot of time money and effort went into these Tapes/DVDs they'll be great. Hapki, Stuart N. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Jere R. Hilland wrote: KMA stuff: Anthony stated he practices for the art side, Michael wrote a long essay on why he favors the self defense side. I enjoy both sides of the equation. Hapkido (or any martial art for that matter), when done correctly, can be a wonderful art to see, but can also a very effective avenue for self defense. I reply: I never really thought about that way, but I guess I do stand on the art side of things. I mean, I practice to be able to use my weapon to its best advantage, and I work for years to make certain that I can do techniques which confound me. I measure my training on the basis of what I can do *right now* rather than what I was able to do in the past or "that one time." I try to keep what I am learning separate from the other things I know so that I won't fall prey as easily to the route of replacing something I can't do in HDGD with something I can do from another source. I want to keep the art strong and vital in and of itself, not modified and changed through my faulty or undeveloped understanding. Finally, I try to apply the cultural and mental aspects of the art to improve or better my life without trading away the values I was raised with. I want to make it an enhancement to my life and my traditions, not a replacement for them. What I don't do is practice my art from the point of view that I will have to use it as a form of self-defence on the street or in my home. I spar hard, and expect to get the same in return, but weekly bashings are not the same thing as conditioning yourself for a real fight. So there you have it, I strive for practical mastery of the weapon in terms of usage, but not practical use in terms of that elusive idea: "self-defence". How about that, I am a "martial artist" afterall. I'll have to change my website! BTW: My website is still suffering from the data loss at Stormpages, so it's still showing a version dating back to November 2002. This sort of thing always seems to happen to me when I start a new project on the internet... ===== Anthony Boyd: Swordsman and English Teacher www.stormpages.com/haidonggumdo ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Wed, 29 Dec 2004 05:28:42 -0800 (PST) From: sextonr003 To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Stuff Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net In preparation for moving aboard a sailboat this summer, I've got to unload a bunch of books and videos. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Yep the video series would of been cool. I would of bought them JUST to help Doju Nim Ji out financially. IMHO if anyone wants to understand Sin Moo then go train with him personally. If you check it out he might be somewhere in your area soon. I know when it comes to video's of Doju Nim demonstrating and teaching Hapkido I along with a few others have all the techniques basically documented on video already with Doju Nim Ji explaining and demonstrating every technique,,BUT these videos are not for sale or for borrow...if you happen to go train with him watch his stepping patterns on every technique.. IMHO that is where his brilliance starts,, his techniques are meant to work on big mean guys that want to kill you... the answer is in his stepping that is where he picks up all that power and speed... unfortunately for me I didn't realize this until the second time I trained with him...Master Michael McCarty picked up on it the first time he trained with him..Master Nabors picked it up early on also... and some others who weren't impressed with him never picked up on it at all. I used to get mad at some of these jokers but like one of my students said to me "hey maybe they don't know enough yet about Hapkido to understand what they DON'T see" hmmm that very well could be.. sometimes you take for granted what people already know. Anywho go train with him and then give me a call and we can talk about Sin Moo until your blue in the face,,, BUT if you are blue in the face Doju Nim Ji will tell you that you need to change your diet because your Liver has some problems!!!!!!! That's just a personal joke between Sin Moo guys... Happy New Year and a big fat juicy HAP KI to all! Master Kelso, my Tae Kwon Do instructor for the last 15 years, passed away yesterday morning. I was of the understanding he was fighting lymphatic cancer. I only know some of the details. This news was a rather shock to me yesterday. When I spoke to him last the cancer was supposedly caught fairly early and the treatments were going good for how these kind of treatments can be on a person. Terry touched many of our lives in a positive and personal way. He was a Family Man, Martial Arts Instructor, Law Enforcement & Security Professional, Military, and (for many like myself) a great friend!!! Terry, will be missed. MC Reply Dear Howard, Two of my greatest mentors and friends also left this earth via lymphatic cancer, my father-in-law and my chiropractor/friend/mentor. Often they leave us with great gifts as their legacy. Maureen, besides being the best chiropractor/reiki master I've ever met also introduced me to my wife...our first "blind date" was to hear our mutual friend talk about being a cancer survivor. My father-in-law ran several marathons in his 4-5 year battle with cancer and continued on as a leader with Luekemia Team in training all the way to his death bed. But what he really taught me was how important family really is and how to take time to make that action a habbit in deed and not just words. Speaking of which gotta go Be Well, MC --__--__-- Message: 9 From: "Gladewater SooBahkDo" To: "the_dojang" Date: Wed, 29 Dec 2004 10:25:57 -0600 Subject: [The_Dojang] Kat Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Master West Thank You for the information. Confirmed with whom? The person producing the series? If so, that isn't good enough. This is the person that was 'taking' Gm Ji in the whole deal. I'll try checking with Gm Ji to see what he says himself. If the tapes do eventually come out it may be without Gm Ji's final consent. If that happens I can only hope that no one purchases them. I already have tapes of him teaching all the techniques, but a professionally done set would be nice to have -if- Gm Ji is happy with the final deal.
