The two arts are like opposites. Yes, hapkido uses strikes and kicks, but from what I've seen from "real" hapkidoists, those techniques are executed a little different from TKD. The tactics are also different, as well as the philosophy towards those tactics. If you practiced both I would think you would have a difficult time changing mental modes. The judo/karate equation works the same, thats how I came up with the opinion above. Just my experience and two cents worth. Fred __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I thought my four year training time would adequately prepare me to offer substantially higher quality instruction compared to the seminar only trained self-defense/hapkido/taekwondo/Brazilian jujitsu/American combatives.... instructors (and there only two instructors in town). Please remember I don't claim to actually know anything well enough to teach another person, except for my seven year old, maybe! Respectfully Fred __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I know of a school in Watertown, NY. run by by a former associate and student of mine. Since I don't want to end up in any legal hassles, let me just say that if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. Make sure you interview the instructors you find there, ask questions, if you find one that is from Texas, ask him what happened to all the people in Texas he left hanging, disappointed, confused, uneducated and disillusioned about their entire martial arts experience. Then try to find a reputable school that isn't just in it for the money. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dave, I'm very disapointed and hurt by your expierence. Those who do not respect their students and do not theach honorbly give the rest of us a bad shake. Those of us whom have worked hard for so many years to not only train to kick and punch but to have TKD become a way of thinking and living. I can't tell you how much my partner and I really care for each and every student. What they become is a reflection of us. It is not about getting money out of my students. I know that TKD has dramaticaly changed my life, that's why I decided to change careers and pursue it as my life career. And knowing how much TKD can improve one's life, I want to share what I have learned with as many people as possible. I hope you find a great school. Don't let your first expierence keep you from trusting another instructor. I have had three instructors whom I have the highest regard for. They still push me to be my best no matter what I do. They have only treated me with utmost respect. sandy --__--__-- Message: 11 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Thu, 13 Jan 2005 14:15:30 -0800 (PST) Subject: [The_Dojang] call for papers Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Forwarding...
