Just a little too much "martial" for my taste. Im looking for a similar style, so everything I have learned could be of benefit. I would like to train on the westside of Los Angeles. Today is my 1st dan test in Chung Do TKD. I am not as nervous as I thought I would be, but I am shaking. And I still have 4 hours to go. Will beer still shaking hands? Kidding. I am sharp and ready for this to be over with. Of course, now I feel like a have a target all over my body for the gups to prove themselves. Is this normal? The mental education and history can be overwhelming. I feel confident regarding the physical training, forms, sparring and self-defense moves, it's the written portion that concerns me. --__--__-- Message: 5 From: Ray Terry Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] substitue for HWA RANG DO (TAE SOO DO) To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2005 09:54:37 -0800 (PST) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > Isnt Hapkido more of a soft style? I suspect you'll find them fairly similar, depending (of course) on the instructor. I think Gm Han's URL is http://www.bongsoohanhapkido.com. I believe that he is even older and more senior in the Hapkido arts than is Dr. Lee. ...you mention Tae Soo Do. As I understand it Joo Bang Lee borrowed that early name for Taekwondo to identify the early portions of his HRD syllabus, perhaps the portions more karate-ish, i.e. more linear. Yes? In this manner you may like Gm Han's school as I believe they spend a lot of time on kicks and punches in the early stages of study.
