I train in So Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan which is a true art. The word art does not always mean effective. I believe there are many styles that fit into the word true art, but are not always effective. Soo Bahk Do is a very effective style but lacks good ground application. Jujitsu is an effective style but lacks good stand up application. Being effective does not make a style an art. Art must embody history, tradition, philosophy, discipline, respect, and technique. I do agree that most people claiming to have degrees in multiple styles are a fraud. I train in So Bahk Do consistently and live by the principles of the Moo Duk Kwan organization and practice the physical art of Soo Bahk Do. I do however cross trian in Jujitsu. I do not practice the Japanese/Brazilian philosophies that are associated with the techniques. I simply added the techniques of Jujitsu to my personal practice to increase my ability to be effective, I have trained in jujitsu for 15 years but do not claim any rank. To be a 5th dan in both styles I would have to practice the complete art. This would mean living by two sets of principles. Just my two cents JC --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Mon, 14 Mar 2005 18:53:55 -0800 (PST) From: Charles Richards To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] new WTF rules Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I read Yeah, but that's the way it goes. That's why you strive never to let the opponent score. You can fight off ten guys with your superior martial arts abilities when, after twenty minutes, some guy pulls a gun on you, he negates your hard work too... :p MC Reply OK Agreed. My mentor (and listmember) has advised to never leave that decision in the officials or scorekeeper's hands. Same applies to a self defense application..... And then So if Blue has two votes and Red has one vote and judge four is note voting which indicates nothing was clear is that a Blue point? Yeah, Blue gets one point, Red didn't get a clear enough hit to score. MC Reply Actually, I was eluding to judge four doesn't click a button because he saw both player's attempts and thought they were blocked or avoided from his angle so he is effectively voting that Blue did not score, which would be 2 for blue and 2 opposed to blue so not a majority of officials.....I do see your point that Blue convinced two judges so I guess it would depend on how long the algorithm leaves the window open for both players to get a point...see below And then read > What happens if two vote Blue and two Vote Red? Do we stop time and > have the referee vote? hmmm.... I've seen them allow both points. If both combatants land a solid round-house to the other's chest, then the two points are equally valid. See above depends on the algorithm, yes Then I read > I think the Tekno league is already using 10x10 as a standard. As a > promoter, I think 7x7 is fine for everyone 13-. Not sure whats up with > a 12x10? I guess it encourages atheletes to fight in a more linear > point fighting style, than using a more realistic angles advantage > strategy . Also a little less running around. MC Reply My WTF buddies updated me that most likely it is 10x10 not 12x12 and the goal is less room to run and in theory more engagement....more crowd appeal Thanks for your reply I enjoyed your responses MC --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "Michael Fisher" To: The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Mon, 14 Mar 2005 20:15:27 -0700 Subject: [The_Dojang] (no subject) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hi all, Does anybody have access to more information about the expanded role that fist techniques will play in TKD? Are they talking about punching during kyeorugi? This would certainly change the nature of TKD competition that I've seen. Additional info? Comments?
