Down play MA training "I just do it for fun/ exercise - didn't think it would work so well" Don't Testify Say he did it to himself you just assisted :) (using his power) The last one is a joke - I have no idea, if put in that situation, how to address it. My first inclination is to give a honest account of the facts as I saw them. But I know that approach is sometimes not the best method in court. Sometimes the less you say the better. In fact, we say on our website "Two of the stars of the Great Bear (the 'pointers') show the way to Polaris, The Pole Star. Polaris has always been used by navigators to find their way, which is what we would like to think is one of the functions of The Chilsong Centre. We hope to be able to show the way to greater physical, mental and perhaps spiritual development." As far as the Moodukwan is concerned, my first Korean teacher (1972), Kwon Young-Woo was a Moodukwan blackbelt before he changed to WTF. What WAS your point? Traveling to a beautiful place just to be harassed, seriously inconvenienced, and possibly put on a watch list? We all know what's going on with the "War on Terror" (regardless of anyone's political feelings on the matter, it exists in one form or another), so why ask your students to go through this? Mr. Baarends (sp?) stated: "You don't get a N. Korean stamp in your passport. As soon as you enter the country, they take your passport, and you get it back as soon as you leave. I believe that as a U.S. citizen it is next to impossible to visit N. Korea." That sound reassuring. But according to your previous posts, Mr. Banham, you've been arrested and imprisoned in foreign countries before, ...so a country holding your passport and your own country's airport security (and your country's intelligence department) is just a minor inconvenience to make a political statement about how wrong Western Governments are about N. Korea? Aren't there a LOT of beautiful places in the world to go? Can't you get true KMA in S. Korea? I can understand that you want to make a statement about perceptions on world affairs, but to ask your students to do this too? Again, I admit I'm ignorant here (and I have already done the name-calling to myself so you needn't :-), so please bear with me...? Rick Clark will be in the UK most of April. Here's a list of locations and dates. I have attended many of Rick's seminars over the years and feel fortunate to have trained with a person who is so willing to share his knowledge without all of the typical martial arts politics in the background. If you have a chance to attend one of these seminars, please do so. You will come away with a new appreciation of your art. I do suspect that you are a warrior on and off the mat and I did not mean to use the world "shallow". Upon reflection, I fear that may have been an inappopriate word to use. And I agree that we are probably arguing about semantics. I also agree STRONGLY that many martial-artists are not "warriors" as I would consider the term warrior either. I would also submit that I know some people who are not martial-artists and who emobody the term "warrior" much more, both in their thinking as well as in their life...very sad! Anyway, since there are several Jeff's now, I guess I'll have to use my last name. An underlying thing though has possessed me from the very beginning of my martial arts quest. I wanted the ability not to get beat up every day at school, after school ect. It grew from there until today. Protect others who cannot protect themselves. Do good and help. I have never been in the military. I have had many family members and friends on the front lines though. Over the 28 years of fitness training, MA training and life training. I have used my God given ability to take real bad people off the street by force as a Bail Enforcement Agent. Aided others in need of help who were being assaulted by thieves and hoodlums, surviving assaults by gun and knife and fist and foot too many to say but I have as well wrote poetry, picked and arranged flowers, donated time to the local retirement home, cried when my cat died and buried it with my son to teach him lessons he will teach his son or daughter. blah blah blah just like I'm sure most of us have or will experience theses things in some way or another. into all aspects of his life and tries to be good. Every time you step out the door you must be aware of danger around you. There is war going on around you every day not just in the military. I rambling... Many things make a warrior. A warrior has many facets and brings his martial science to all aspects of his life It is a way of life and a way of thought, It is spiritual. PS. Did you hear they caught BTK in Park City Kansas after 30 years last month I had been within 100 or so feet of his house many times working in the area. There is danger everywhere. We must balance this with peace of mind, God,poetry whatever it is for you. I've been reading your posts for years, always enjoy them.
