What kind of work has been done comparing the style of aki-jujutsu that was taught by Takeda Sokaku at his school in Japan and the original hapkiyusul that DJN Choi taught, before the kicks etc. were added by the early hapkidoists? Records are so vague about DJN Choi's life in Japan, but certainly the original hapkiyusul and Takeda Sokaku's aki-jujutsu must have looked a lot alike, if not identical... Please forgive me >for saying this again, but, if martial arts were accredited the likelihood of this crap >would be greatly diminished as it is in colleges. > >Sid The problem with getting things accredited is real simple as far as I am concerned. People will get grandfathered in, others will get in positions of power and abuse it as has been evidenced in the past criminal behavior of some of the top guys in the martial arts. You will have graft corruption and other forms of illegal and immoral behavior no matter who tries to do the right thing. Hell just look at the oil for food scandal at the UN. People are greedy and corrupt and they will try to take every penny they can from you - given the chance. Having a "government" controlled body of people does nothing to ensure that you will not be cheated - in fact the only thing a government body gives you is the mantle of respectability. Who is to say some 21 year old kid can no found and promulgate the next major martial art, even without the sanctions of the 'old masters'. Jigiro Kano was 21 when he started Judo, Bruce Lee was not some old man, and the majority of the heads of the various Kwan did not have "10th or 9th dan" rank from some legitimate organization. These guys went from lower rank to upper rank in less time than you can say 9th dan, but yet they slow down the ranks for everyone else. The market and your peers will dictate if the system a person is teaching is worth while and effective. Why should we have to hear "Hi I am from the government and I am going to make your life simpler". Mr. David Purves indicates that he has no responsibility as he is the technical contact only, even though he is listed as the registrant (i.e. owner) and Mr. Hackworth is listed as the admin and claims he doesn't have the capability to remove it. I am currently working with gathering information from administrators (Icann, PIR, etc) before going the legal route so as to ensure that they are given every opportunity to comply with our collective wishes. Its really a shame that this blight on the face of martial art is still around. The funny thing is that some of the things I said to Hackworth, and related to Ray the night that a lot of this stuff happened, they now say I did to others. Simply pathetic. The really sad thing is that this camp is composed of individuals who are quite likeable. If they had only done things the right way instead of cheating people. At any rate, you can locate Mr. Purvis's email by going to www.whois.org and entering in the USNTA.org url. He seems to be unawares of what Hackworth has done to people so drop him a line and let him know. If he is legitimately in the dark, then I hope he finds the light. If he is not, I hope he gets his just rewards. Regards to all, Don Kirsch Jon wrote: "This is what I learned from my parents: If you have someone who uses false statements (lies) to make themselves out to be something they're not, more than likely if you ignore them they will go find someone else to stroke their ego. To argue with them or talk about them will confirm their false sense of importance." --__--__-- Message: 6 Date: Wed, 30 Mar 2005 07:40:11 -0600 From: Dave To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Website Update Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net May wish to try to contact their web-hosting company (can be found doing a whois search). Many of the hosting companies will suspend and remove a site if copyright or other legal action is being pursued, or even threatened. In a case where people's names are being used without their permission, most web hosts will want nothing to do with it. I doubt that these criminals own their own servers... The one thing that always stuck with me was a comment by a Daito-Ryu Aiki-JuJutsu instructor after viewing Hapkido. He said it was that it was very similar, but it lacked Aiki. I have only viewed a single example of a senior master of DRAJ, Soshi Seigo Okamoto of DRAJ Roppokai. His DRAJ was very soft, much closer to a soft Aikido than to any Hapkido I've ever experienced. But I understand that his DRAJ is not typical.
