Frankly I must admit that what drew me more than anything else was the likelihood of being able to connect with the Dae Han Kido Hae through the offices of the World Kido Assn. It was not the rank so much that attracted me but the opportunity to connect with folks whose concern for quality eclipsed pretty near everybody else. The one-two punch of reconciling with the WHF along with the revelation that GM Seo, in fact, did not actually speak for the KKA got me back to where I need to be. All of which is to say that I can understand how easy it is to lose ones' way in the labryinth which is the world of Hapkido organizations. FWIW. I broke my back in 2007 and was basically crippled by it, It was devistating, to say the least. I got sick and tired of taking pain pills. So, I went to my CHIROPRACTOR, (mR. hOLISTIC mAN!) AND ASKED HIM FOR HIS POINT OF VIEW ON TAKING YP tkd TO IMPROVE MY MOBILITY. hE THOUGHT IT SOUDED LIKE A SUPERB IDEA, EXPLAING TO ME THAT THE TWO VERTABRAE THAT i FRACTURED HAD CAUSE LATERAL DAMAGE TO THE KOINTS IN THE SHOULDER BLADES AND SCAR TISSUE WAS FORMING AS A RESULR, IN ORDER TO IMMOBILIZE THE INHURED ARE, hE WENT ON TO TELL ME THATM IN ORDER TO COMBAT THATM i WOULD DO BEST TO ENGAGE MYSELF SIN SOME STRETCHING EXCERCISES, AND THAT rhd IS AN EXCELLENT FORM OF DOING JUST THAT, (oops sorry bout caps lock!) Here I am, over a year and a half later and I have absolutly no old back pain! And I owe it all to proper stretching techniques. I use my stretching time to meditate on/ isolate each muscle area that seems tense, ask my soirit what it is I holdong there, (vould be the stress of the kids...) and then I visualize the stress leaving my body with each exhale. I find myself becoming mure limber and able to reach deeper into my stretch, Oh I can't seem to shut up, and I'm just a newbie here! Hi all! I'm Rebekah. Hope I havrn't offended anyone...? --__--__-- Message: 8 From: To: Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: comments about John Pellegrini, etc.etc.etc....... Date: Sat, 9 Apr 2005 0:46:20 -0400 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Perhaps I am alone in this, but I get a little tired of the "My instructor can beat up your instructor" crap that gets shoveled onto the DD occasionally. Though I usually just lurk, I thought I would contribute since it seems like anything, except for KMA on many occasions, is fit for discussion. I am not taking a side one way or another, since the last thing needed is one more yo-yo voicing an opinion that will change absolutely nothing, but WILL spread malice and unrest throughout. Besides, those that know me know my feelings about all the guys that have mentioned and have been mentioned. I am especially disappointed that a lot of the crap shoveling is done by guys that are supposed to be high-ranking players, and more importantly are supposed to act like it. As an aside,it would also be advisable not to sling it unless you are sure you're uniform is extra clean (I assume at this point any of the guilty parties would get my meaning) You know "Let he who is without sin..." Anyway, I admit it is gratifying to see people you think are posers, frauds, etc. get dogged constantly, but I just don't think that a bunch of the guys who are supposed to be setting the example for lower dans like me should be the ones to do it. If people want to be sheep and flock to these "masters" and "GMs", no one will be able to talk them out of it. Take for example the ICHF crew, not that they are necessarily sheep, but look at the level of devotion. They came out of the woodwork to defend P. , as I would if my instructor was being bashed (Though I am thankful to train under an instructor where this is a non-issue) My point in all this is that eventually people will learn, or maybe they won't. Either way, only what you do matters. Do it right, and show students the right way. They are how you will be judged anyway. An 8th, 9th, or 10th degree means absolutely nothing if one is unable to pass along the knowledge and wisdom to students that such rank is supposed to signify. Taking in money in hand over fist and filling dojangs with warm bodies is a little off the mark, though I think somebody may have moved the bullseye when no one was looking. I agree that guys that do this probably deserve what they get, but be a little more judicious in the administration. Take up issues with them directly, instead of whispering dirty secrets about them at recess. Well, I have probably upset some people, (some people get really touchy about rank and might consider this insubordination) so I reckon it's about time to climb down off the soapbox and let someone else take a turn. Sorry for the long post, but if you made it this far I might have said something that matters. First, sorry I missed y'all in Jackson... Hopefully we can get up that way for a tournament this year... Second, your comments about practicing while traveling brought up a fond memory... "Way back" in 2000, when I was only a red belt, we drove from Arkansas to Atlanta for the Battle of Atlanta, primarily so our demonstration team could compete. We stopped at a convenience store just east of Memphis, and were out stretching our legs (since we were driving straight through), and naturally we started practicing the demo. It included a fair amount of self-defense and falls, etc. We practiced for about 10 minutes before the police arrived (we had no weapons, it was all empty hand :)... Apparently the convenience store attendant was freaked out, and probably thought we were going to storm the store any time... :-) We talked to the officer, who thought it was hilarious, wished us a safe trip, and went on his way... :) **bows** - Bert Edens, II Dan TKD Springdale, Arkansas --__--__-- Message: 12 From: Luv42lions@aol.com Date: Sat, 9 Apr 2005 11:42:58 EDT Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Re: Warning for the Back To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hi All, Rebekah back again, IN REFERENCE TO BY ABOVE POST...ATROCIOUS! I am in the very southeastern corner of TX , practicing ITA style of TKD at the Orange, TX academy. Probation 1sr degree, Decided 1st degree., sr. 1st degree, probation 2nd degree, decided 2nd degree, senior 2nd degree, and so forth... I currently hold the rank of, (((sigh))) senior purple, which means I'm going to have been working my poose/form for eight months, now!!!! (I was hospitalized with a dibilitating disease that I'm am controlling with [proper medicarion now.) It's easy to get caught up in the ego and think to one self," I should'vr been there....! But I had an epiphany of sorts the other day: I asked myself 1) Am I greeting my challenges with enthusiasm? . 2) Am I honoring the limitations of my body ? 3) Do I leave each work out feeling exhilarated? 4) Am I a black belt, waiting to happen? (You know IT!!!) Where,in the begining, it was all about achieving the next higher rank, it's now become all about the journey.I'll tell you this: my purple belt form, instead of becoming a monotonous drag for me, has become a work toward perfection. (What makes it even more fun, is knowing that i'll never attain it. But daaaaaaaaaamn, it's looking tight! (And it feels great, too!.) Nice to meetcha Mr. Sims, fellow Texan and lov'r of the Art! Who will decide who's art it legitimate and who's is not? Will it be people with the largest organizations, a person with the most political pull (just have a look at what happened in Korea with TKD not too long ago). Things are a mess - but trying to have it organized and run by the government - any government would make it more of a mess. Do you really think any government program is better than the private sector? When I hear "hi I am here from the government and I am here to help you" I want to hold onto my cash and lock the doors.
