I don't have a dog in the fight with "JohhnieP" or "Chubbie". I think it's all rather silly. You will have those that believe one side and others that are on the other side. I could care less about what any other person or group is doing as long as it does directly and negatively impact me or those I care about. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Generally I only read the dojang for the thoughts and ideas of the many people on this list, however I felt compelled to respond to this thread. As a chiropractor, I am saddened to see so many intelligent people discussing aches and pains in their backs without the conversation revolving around natural healing concepts. In my opinion, martial artists have a rather different philosophy on life in general and lean toward the more natural aspects of healing and body control. That is one of the main reasons that I am both a martial artist and a chiropractor. I am also a registered nurse and have been in the medical field for over 10 years. I have seen many devastating and atrocious procedures and "treatments" done to people in the medical field in the name of "healing." What many people do not realize is that the human body has a tremendous amount of healing potential. As a chiropractor, I would encourage all martial artists (and all people for that matter) to seek chiropractic care. Chiropractic is not only helpful for "back aches, neck aches and headaches" but for a multitude of other issues that concern the human body. With proper alignment and nervous system function, one can improve proprioception, balance, immunity, energy levels, and healing potential. Couple chiropractic care with gentle stretching (such as Yoga) and meditation techniques and you have a wonderful opportunity for a healthy body. Specifically, Mr. Walker, I hope that you have researched every possible treatment for your cervical issues prior to your fusion. Once the vertebrae are fused, there is absolutely NO range of motion between those vertebrae. Incidentally, many people also find out that they have the same amount or even more pain and problems after fusions than before them. I am not opposed to surgery if that is the very LAST resort, but I hate to see people going under the knife prematurely. If you are dead set on surgery, best of luck to you and I hope that you come out of it with all of your expectations met and your body able to heal. Sorry for the long post & obvious bias, but I am quite passionate about helping people find natural ways to help their bodies heal themselves. I have driven in first gear for an hour on the main roads in the UK - and you don't get far that way. Hello Bruce. GM Seo WAS a spokesperson for DHKH for a long time. The fact IS that in 2002 the world Hap Ki Do championships were held in the Olympic stadium in Seoul, where GM Seo AND Master Kim (who now heads up DHKH) worked side by side on behalf of both organizations. I found your back warning to be right on the money. I did my core work and stretching religiously for 4 to 6 months. But lately, have gotten lazy about it. Rebbecca...yes, proper stretching is certainly one of the keys. Although sometimes, proper stretching and martial arts instruction do not go hand in hand....depends on the instructor. Another one...at least for me, has been to be careful of high reps of kicks. The chambering and twisting can be murder for some types of back issues.
