Shouldn't that be "...just the facts, according to JC."?? Saying it is a fact means it is more or less written in stone. I hear what you are saying sir. I do. And I do agree with you...to a point. Now, "according to JM", I don't think there is any false sense of confidence at all. Like I said, my students know the difference and don't get discouraged when they don't make the big unspaced breaks. I too also cut the 6x12x1 as well as 4x12x1 boards for my smaller and younger students. And they progress up to the bigger boards. Even in demos, our goal is NOT to fool the public. It's all about the confidence within the student performing the break. Like you replied to Dakin, to each his own. Take care sir. Baiting me is not going to make your position any more right. Nobody asked anything about the efficacy of a technique. Nobody is asking about getting out on the mat thousands of times. If that is something you want to discuss start your own string and say so. In the meantime the original question had to do with the manner in which the Korean and Japanese government recognized GUHAPDO. Now do you have an answer to that particular question? I also draw your attention to the fact that it was YOU among others who stated that when a person was curious about the bonafides of a possible teacher that it was within their purview to ask for validation. Are you now qualifying your position in that regard? Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dear Howard: "......Anyway, thanks for the ongoing discussion... this is good stuff....." Then how about we take this a step farther and I will use Ji since his tradition is arguably one of the more far-ranging, yes? I would not pretend that Ji's tradition is pure Choi material, but I WOULD argue that the Ji tradition is closer to the "yu sool" tradition which Choi is reported to have owned in his interview naming it "yawara" rather than DRAJJ. Having said that I purpose that Ji's tradition not only is more yu sool but also stirs in kicking material and Taoist material as well. Would you agree so far? If you can accept what I have said so far, what would keep us from taking another step and melding material of the Ji tradition (Choi material+ Taek Kyon material + Taoist breathing) with Ship Pal Gi material such that the weapons practiced in what we currently know as "Hapkido" now reflect a solid non-Japanese tradition and one more in keeping with the traditional Mu-Do of the Korean culture? Thoughts? Comments? Anyone? Or has the testing requirements changed since GM Kim tested, and Mrs. Sell will be the first woman to undergo the new testing requirements? Or did you mean the first non-Korean woman to test for 8th dan? I'll note that this in NO way is meant to take anything away from Mrs. Sell's accomplishments. I both congratulate her in her dedication to TKD and wish her well in her testing. (And hope that in some future time, I also demonstrate such dedication.) I was just curious. Of course, if GM Kim is an ITF dan-holder, my question is moot. :) Thomas ------------------------------------ thomcat@binary.net hapkido.4t.com "If you aren't modeling what you are teaching then you are teaching something else." --__--__-- Message: 10 From: Ray Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] awesome breaking To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Sat, 23 Apr 2005 20:10:21 -0700 (PDT) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > The best breaking demo I have ever witnessed was SaBumNin Richard Byrne > from Boston. 10 (12X12X1) board reverse punch and an 11 board instep > roundhouse kick.
