He was tortured for about 2 hours and came out with only minor discomforts associated with the test. I can't know of the discomfort regarding the celebration afterward. Tuan, you did a great job....I am certain that you will not be forgiven by the next unfortunate to test, for setting the bar so high. Probably depends on the art I suppose, but the way my instructor explained it to me is that you bow at about 45 degrees with the head facing downward. The way he explained it is that if keep your head up, you are showing a lack of respsct in that you don't trust the opponent to be honorable...you don't trust them. If you bow *too* low though, it's also a sign of lack of respect because you are essentially saying that you don't respect your opponents ability because you are putting yourself in such a vulnerable position. I am looking at a rather sizable bill next month. Of course, this is bill is coming in summer when enrollment is down. Here is my question. Who do you recommend for MA insurance? Have you ever had to use your insurance company? Is a signed liability release good enough for studios? What is a fair price for insurance? Thanks for your help and I hope that this benifits the readers of the DD, Patrick Baeder __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! I was taught, by my first Korean instructor, to aways watch the person you were bowing to. Since we are studying martial arts it is never wise to talk your eyes off your opponent. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Cult leader now indicates that TKD is 5,000 years old?!? :) ------------------------------------------------ CEO drew strength from Korean roots Business Journal Silicon Valley May 13, 2005 Tae Yun Kim has a story worth telling. Again and again. It's hard to imagine that the outgoing, ambitious CEO of Lighthouse Worldwide Solutions -- and the founder of the Jun Su Martial Art Academy in San Jose, the Morning Planet Web design firm and the TYK line of beauty products -- could have grown up impoverished in Korea, a child who was battered physically by her parents and emotionally by a society that she said placed more value on the lives of young boys than on her own. But that is Ms. Kim's story of her life, which began on the Lunar New Year in 1946. While a young boy would have been considered a blessing born on that day, a baby girl was labeled a symbol of bad luck. After suffering through the Korean War and seeing a friend killed before her eyes, she decided that her life was going in a different direction. "I was born both a curse and bad luck to my parents," Ms. Kim said. "But I decided, after living through the Korean War, 'why do I have to be like everyone else? I have ownership of my life.' It is every woman's personal choice to take their life in a different direction. No one can determine what's right for you." She found further strength in the martial art of Taekwondo, training in secret with a martial arts master. Her training, she said, broke 5,000 years of male-dominated tradition and was forbidden by Korean society. That was just one string of firsts, the rest which come in rapid fire form -- the first female black belt in Korea, the first female master and the first female grandmaster in the world, the highest level one can attain in the field of martial arts. She came to the United States at age 24, mastered the English language and earned a living working entry-level jobs. In 1982, she became interested in computer technology, and eventually started a company with a fellow black belt student and engineer. That firm has grown into Lighthouse Worldwide, a company that builds contamination and environmental monitoring products for the high-tech industry. Despite being the founder of several companies and a grandmaster of the martial arts, Ms. Kim still finds delight in the simple. "I see grass breaking out of a crack in the sidewalk, and I get excited! 'Look, the rock is so heavy and yet the grass has penetrated through.' That is how I see myself, that this life is my choice. I don't want to hide behind excuses. I am determined to make things happen." She has passed that zeal and appreciation for life's opportunities on to her staff. "Dr. Kim constantly reminds us that businesses are made up of people, not positions or job titles," said Thomas Saunders, a senior vice president at Lighthouse, who has known Ms. Kim for 25 years. "No individual is beyond her recognition. This support includes being given the opportunity to challenge ourselves and our abilities." Ms. Kim has added author, cover artist and media host to her credits, having written books such as "Seven Steps to Inner Power" and hosting programs on radio and television. It's that mastery of conversation that has allowed her to focus - and sometimes astonish - her staff. And she's not above using bathroom analogies to do it. "Dr. Kim said to the team that if we don't understand what it means to be focused on a goal, we should recall the last time we were shopping in a mall and had to go to the bathroom," said Adam Giandomenico, president of Lighthouse. "She went on to express how our focus at that moment was crystal clear and that our mind didn't wander, day dream or think about anything else other than the pure fact that we needed to find the bathroom. She had everyone laughing because this wasn't anything that any of us expected to hear." --__--__-- Message: 11 Date: Mon, 16 May 2005 18:37:50 -0700 (PDT) From: Master Arce To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] CHUBBY...
