The purpose of an Association of State Organizations shall be to facilitate the election of a grass roots director to the Board." Further, pursuant to Section 6 of USAT's published Process for Seating the Initial Board of Directors disseminated on April 15th, if the USAT Governance and Management Committee is to recognize an Association of State Organizations (ASO) before the upcoming Board of Directors elections, any such ASO must be recognized by August 1st, 2005 in order to be allowed to elect a Grassroots Director to represent it on the USAT Board of Directors. As a result, the Association of State Organizations (ASO) will be holding its organizational meeting 7-9pm on June 20th, 2005 at the Sheraton Gunther in San Antonio, Texas at the Junior Olympics. The purpose of this meeting will be to finalize and adopt bylaws for the organization, as well as attend to organizational matters including, without limitation, the admission of state associations. Any state that was recognized by USAT at the November 2004 Board of Governors meeting is eligible to participate in the ASO. However, only those state associations that are formed as nonprofit corporations and that have attained tax exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code will be eligible to vote; all other recognized state associations will have a voice, but shall have no voting rights during this organizational meeting of the ASO. During this organizational meeting, each state association that is entitled to vote shall have one (1) vote on any matter submitted to vote of the recognized state associations.. All state associations applying for recognition by the ASO must also bring a $100.00 application fee that will be used by the ASO to defray administrative costs. At the meeting, each state association will be asked to complete an application form and, in order for a state association to vote during this meeting, it must also provide proof (i) that it is a nonprofit corporation in good standing, and (ii) of its current recognition of exemption from taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The main purpose of the ASO shall be to elect one of the Grass Roots Directors to the Board of Directors. The ASO will be completely autonomous of USA Taekwondo outside of that function. I am told kids should break boards measuring 9" while adults do 11" boards. I thought the kid boards were smaller. Can someone please advise me what they use at there school for kids and adults? We've been using break away boards, but I want the children to experience real boards. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Much! Any tips? Suicide looks good. Most all of us fail at one thing or another over time. Grow from the experience. Consider how you feel right now. Ponder it. Use this memory to take yourself to the next level so that you don't have to go through this feeling too many more times in the future. Also consider that for some folks when they fail... someone dies. Perhaps a loved one. In the greater scheme of things failing your blackbelt test is relatively minor. Put it into perspective, work harder, prepare better the next time and you'll no doubt do just fine. I came pretty darn close on mind as well. I definately think suicide will NOT help you pass (makes kicking techniques harder). My guess is you know where some problems were and you instructor can tell you were the rest are. You now have a great opportunity to hammer the heck out of those things during training. Every person I have seen fail a test came back for the re-test and blew their instructors away. Good luck on the next round. Remember it is all about growing and learn, I personally feel like I learn as much if not more from the failures. Kind of like sparring with someone who is alot better than you. You might never beat them, but you will always take something away. Edward Edmund T wrote: >Hey guys > >I failed my blackbelt grading. Any tips? It was very tough to swallow. However, it made me a better person - no cliché.....seriously. In my estimation, to be a gracious winner, you gotta know what defeat tastes like. Same is true with being a leader. How can you lead if you've never fallen on your face? I've seen some natural athletes pass the physical portion of black belt exams with flying colors. Unfortunately, for many schools, that WAS the test. These natural athletes may be horrible instructors to the "normal" folks...or worse, the "less than average" people. Take this time to mediate on what you did wrong, how will you fix it, and how you will apply this to other people coming behind you needing a shoulder when they don't do as well as they expected. And no matter what, keep your chin up. THIS is the time a true leader proves themselves. In our school, we break it down as: 7" for 8-11 year olds 9" for 12-15 year olds 11" for 16 year olds And two 11" for males 17 and older. There are times I make an exception either way. A "big kid" may get bumped up to the next size board and someone small for their age may get bumped back. The board break is meant to be challenging, a show of power, and a bit of a physiological challenge. If a student isn't ready to break a board, they aren't given the oppritunity. this is done to protect them from injury. We never used thinner or smaller boards as it makes the students feel they aren't strong enough or good enough to be held to the same standard. --__--__-- Message: 10 Date: Sat, 28 May 2005 22:22:46 -0400 From: Craig Zeigler To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Fractured scaphoid Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Neil Burton wrote: >Dear All > >Well I have resumed my TKD training in Amsterdam >(starting two weeks ago), and now, in an unrelated >mountain biking accident, have fractured my scaphoid! > >The advice I am looking for is if anyone has done this >(someone must have), and if the consensus is that you >can still train, and if yes, what is in (Tuls?) and >what is out (obviously sparring is out, and press >ups!) > >A last piece of the puzzle is that I also cross train >in weights, running, cycling, walking, and gym >machines. If they tell you to lay off, then listen. This is coming from someone who has broken a knee several times, and even managed to finish a class on 2 torn ligaments (don't ask, it wasn't smart). Do the PT as you're told, but feel free to ask the therepist what else you can do to accelerate healing without causing more problems. They're trained profesisonals that (hopefully) know what they're doing.
