Lets talk about the Hapkido instuctor that killed a guy with a sword," Bruce, You probably shouldnt talk about things you know nothing about. Do you know the particulars of the case or talked with either parties lawers? Were you activly involved in the case? Not the same as sexual abuse you see. Not even the same planet. You sound sort of ignorant catagorizing these two men together. A lot of innocent people find themselves in jail, death row inmates ect. People are tried in the media now and more or less convicted by the time they get to trial. People like OJ get off. Child molesters get less time than murderers. I say judge nobody but yourself. apples apples, oranges oranges Greg Hindley --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Fri, 03 Jun 2005 14:11:16 -0500 From: "Calvin Berlin" To: Subject: [The_Dojang] Kicks are for Kids Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I thought I'd 360 spin kick from lurk mode and throw my 2 cents in on the issue of which MA has more kicks. What's a kick? If you do a front kick to the ankle, to the knee, to the waist, to the chest, and to the head, is this 5 different kicks or just 5 different targets? My take is it's a target. If you jump and front kick, is this a different kick. I'd say yeah, because it's added another movement. So how many possible kicks can there be? Do you really only need a handfull of well executed kicks to defend yourself? Let's see, our school is JiDoKwan, WTF and I've seen 19 variations to the roundhouse kick: 1) Back leg Roundhouse, 2) Front leg Roundhouse Jab, 3) Stepping Back leg Roundhouse, 4) Skip-In Back leg Roundhouse, 5) Low-High Back leg Roundhouse, 6) Jumping Back leg Roundhouse, 7) Switch Back leg Roundhouse, 8) Jump Back Switch Back leg Roundhouse, 9) Slide-In Back leg Roundhouse, 10) Stepping Front leg Roundhouse, 11) Skip-In Front leg Roundhouse, 12) Low-High Front leg Roundhouse, 13) Jumping Front leg Roundhouse, 14) 360 Spinning Roundhouse, 15) Double 360 Spinning Roundhouse, 16) Tornado Roundhouse, 17) Double Tornado Roundhouse, 18) Double Roundhouse, 19) Jumping Spinning Roundhouse. Of course, this is a pretty American take on things. The traditional take on Martial Arts has usually been that the arts serve to make the person MORE accountable to their community. Traditonally more was expected FROM a person who had undergone such training. I guess I am curious about where folks see the modern MA having taken a wrong turn--- and what we are going to do about. This news was sad news as I know the person being charged with this aweful crime! It is especially sad for his wife and daughter who ran a school with him and have always been courteous with everyone. Mudoin should be held to a high standard as we are teaching and touching the lives of the young and old and have been put in a position of trust by our students. I hope when all is said and done people will not feel that it is the Martial Arts that are bad. Scum bags can show up anywhere at anytime!
