I have attempted to email through his website, but have been unsuccessful in finding out information. My Sabumnim and I attended Master West's seminar several years ago and met Master Booth and thoroughly enjoyed his demonstration and the techniques. Thank you for any help. Please feel free to email me off list if you want. Before I met Dr. Kimm in 1992 I was 4th dan WTF and we used the same kicking syllabus as Cal mentioned in his previous post. However, we didn't use low kicks outside of forms and we didn't kick to the knee or do kicks from the ground etc on a regular or frequent basis. After 1992 and exposure to Dr. Kimms background in Hapkido and Kuk Sul and the incredible breadth of the Hanmudo system, I began to realise that some systems favour some types of techniques - be that striking, locking, kicking or types of techniques within those broader categories. The truth is, all techniques are available to all of us. I started in judo at age 14 and when I was an active Jidokwan blackbelt, I would often be guilty of grabbing my WTF trained sparring partner and throwing him to the floor and applying an arm bar or choke! In fact, I was penalised at my WTF 2nd dan grading for that very thing. If you are serious about your martial art you will be open minded, analytical and realistic about the techniques you practice and ultimately make your own. Likewise if you are an instructor, you will be the same way about the techniques you teach your students. Bruce Lee said " If any style teaches you a method of fighting, then you might be able to fight according to the limit of that method, but that is not fighting." My sense is that they mean different things in > martial arts than in other areas. What are some of the ways people > understand, use and practice these concepts in martial arts? Intention is essentially putting real meaning into your techniques. i.e. when training to block a face punch, your partner should actually be trying to punch you in the face. They are then punching with intention. If they are pulling their punches short of your face, then you as the blocker are learning to block a punch doesn't need to be blocked. Ground, or being well grounded or being connected to the ground is more of an old-stye TKD (Shotokan) concept. You would "sink" into the ground, connect to the earth, your toes grabbing the earth, thereby giving each technique more power. However new TKD uses more of a non-grounded approach. Much lighter and airy in nature. Instead of sinking into the ground, you dance on top of it. In this approach, power is generated by body torque and by speed and multiple techniques are stressed. Or so it seems to me... Do you know the particulars of the case or talked with either parties lawers? Were you activly involved in the case?...." I am very sorry that you did not like what you read. What I am here to tell you is that I AM involved in the case--- and so is every other person who states that they are part of the KMA community. If I had my way the KMA community would be empowered to suspend the practice of every person accused of abuse, and could ostracize any person convicted of the crime. Am I familiar with the particulars? Do I NOT know anything about child abuse? Yes Greg-- here are a few particulars with which I am knowledgeable. 1.) Child molesters have the highest rate of recitivism of any felony, accept perhaps for drug abuse. 2.) Nearly all abusive adults and more than half of the maladjusted residents of the penal system were abused as children. 3.) In my 15 year tenure counseling and teaching I have never once heard an abusive adult take responsibility for their behavior. 4.) The violation of a child can be accomplished in minutes. The scars to the mind, spirit, self-image and body of the child are for life. 5.) Most people in the KMA community will tend to entertain your view of protecting the rights of the accused in order to avoid discussing the subject in any sort of productive manner. These are the "particulars" that I am interested in. If you would like to "troll" on behalf of the wrongfully accused or have a bunch of money you don't know what to do with, go contact the ACLU. Just don't expect crocodile tears out of me. I tend to avoid discussions of Ethics in a country where G Gordon Liddy can get on national TV and complain about DEEP THROATS unethical behavior. :-P.
