It is by some guy who calls himself "Nodan". I received this DVD in a plain manila envelope with no return address and it was addressed to my school, not me directly. This "Nodan" always refers to himself in the third person, "Nodan says this" and "Nodan says that". From what I can tell he is an older American gentleman (unless it's a good makeup job) and he speaks like he is oriental... I've heard stories of American instructors walking around their dojangs and trying to speak like they are Korean. That is what this guys is doing from what I can tell. You can do a search on "Nodan" at google.com and come up with a couple good links from others who also received this DVD. Has anyone else on this list received this DVD? Know anything about "Nodan"? Can tell if this is a joke? Or what? Someone stated in one of the google search results that they believed this DVD was made as a parody. What's the scoop on this? Thanks. This year’s invitational event was held at the Red River Hapkido Dojang in Fargo, North Dakota and consisted of about two hours of classes on Friday night and around seven hours of classes on Saturday. Saturday’s class probably would have been longer, but the heat and constant falling had most of us participants a little frazzled after seven hours. Seminar Hapkido topics included such things as defense against cloth grabs (Oht Soo), wrist grabs (Son Mok Soo), punches (Bhang Kwon Sool), some attacking techniques (Sun Sool), two attackers (E In Je Ab), and cane (Dan Jang Sool) and choking techniques. Master Hilland demonstrated technique throughout the seminar and often performed advanced demonstrations of multiple techniques which were a joy to watch. Besides being a genuinely nice individual, he has a friendly and professional teaching style and I thought his technical grasp and delivery of Hapkido techniques excellent. Senior students from the Cincinnati Dojang participated during Jere’s demonstration and he often had them looking like “fish out of water” with all that tapping and slapping and painful wriggling around that they did on the mats. The Cincinnati folks were good sports and performed well. All in all, I thought the seminar went very well and was enjoyable. As a foreign visitor (i.e., a hard stylist from South Dakota!), I found Mr. and Mrs. Hilland to be excellent hosts and his North Dakota and Cincinnati students to be friendly, hard working, and enjoyable to partner with. I also wanted to send out a special thanks to the Cincinnati folks (Glen, Julian, John and Dave) for letting me room and travel around with them. In closing, consider yourself lucky if you ever happen to find yourself invited to next year’s seminar. It is a great opportunity to see [and feel] traditional Hapkido being taught my a master of his craft. It was worth every bruise!! Thanks again Jere!
