She received this dubious honor from a Mr. Jung Lee of Denver, CO, and according to him, the art was maintained by him and his brother who lived, I believe, in the Seattle area. I once taught as a guest instructor during one of these classes.....interesting. This man also claimed a 7th dan in TKD, although the certification that he proudly displayed, stated he was a 5th dan in TSD (never let anyone know you can read or understand Korean). This Jung Lee also appeared as "Julian Lee" in a couple of unbelievably bad chopsocky films including "My Samurai". If you have ever been up at 3:30 in the morning and decided to watch infomercials instead of the movie, "My Samurai" was probably on. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Don Kirsch" To: "the_dojang" Date: Wed, 3 Aug 2005 15:08:11 -0700 Subject: [The_Dojang] "confidence vs. ego" Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Mr. Boyd wrote..." Seriously though, I like to train with people who like to really be able to use the material that they study. Finding training partners who know the difference between confidence and ego can be a tough one though...". I could not agree more. That's a very wise statement. Though I think that problem is more of a human characteristic . I've always believed one of the true benefits of serious martial arts training was it is one of the few things one can do in life where you can learn self confidence as well as humility simultaneously. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I was wondering if anyone on the DD can recommend a HapKiDo school in the Seattle, WA area. I have a friend moving to the area who is looking for a "legitimate" HapKiDo dojang. If you could send a web link or phone number it would be appreciated . Last Monday I had a phone call from one of my Cho Dan instructors say he wanted my son Kurt who is Sam Dan and their area instructor removed from his dojang and if not he would get the security guard to taken him off site. When I got there I found out the whole story, my son had text this instructor during the day to give him advance notice that he was intending to come to the class to make sure everything was okay. This instructor replied to the text stating he was not welcome and not to turn up. During the discussing I fund out that he swore to my son in hearing distance of not only the students but also parents of my dojang who were up there training. This instructor had decided that he and another Cho dan were better off on their own and want to take 'their' class in a different direction. After the initial shock had subsided I informed our insurance company to have them removed from our list of certified instructors then wrote to all the students in his class to let then know what had happened. Is it me or does rank and respect not go hand in hand these days, and how come a Cho dan now has more knowledge than a Sar dan. On Sunday I got a call during a class I was teaching and was told that another Cho dan instructor had passed away after suffering from secondary cancer after battling against breast cancer and carrying on training to achieve her Cho dan. Her funeral is on Friday and her husband has asked me to say a few words at the service, this is a great honour for me as she was a fantastic woman. She leaves behind two young boys and husband. I am just waiting for the third thing to happen as they say it comes in threes. The key is for the victim to act first and fast. If the trigger is pulled during the flip anybody could get shot. I'm not sure whatever happened to them. They competed in many open and WTF tournaments and did ok. The students seemed a 'bit' too serious and elitist. I remember looking at the school and on the outside of the window was the name: Tae Lee's Superkarate Ninjitsu-dan blackbelt academy. He and his brother as I recall were on the cover of TKD Times? around the same time. -- Mark Gajdostik TNT-Martial Arts 503-887-9351 --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2005: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
