In fact I once put a hole in an Office door while practicing hook kicks. Here is a couple more for you: “You axe kick or front kick the urinal handle in public restrooms” “You look for retaining walls with nice corners to practice your Jackie Chan moves”. “You view Home Depot as the place to supply demolition materials…Boards & Bricks.” “You privately practice kicks in the stall of the office restroom”. Like I said, I do a spinning back kick to the handle to work on aim and control Take care, Jay --__--__-- Message: 5 From: "Gordon" To: Date: Wed, 10 Aug 2005 16:18:46 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] Billy Jack Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I believe Mr. Laughlin studied Hapkido from then, Master Bong Soo Han. To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Didn't Billy Jack us Hapkido? Wasn't it like the first time Hapkido was used in a movie on the big screen or something? No sense in getting aggrivated unless your delete key doesn't work. Having said that, you need to pursue whatever it is that fits your needs. I just wanted to point out that the exercise and conditioning you find in your typical neighborhood TKD class probably has a LOT more real world carryover to one's quality of life and long-term happiness. I mean, what do you REALLY need at this stage in your life? The ability to defend yourself, or an activity that is physically challenging and promotes health? But hey...maybe your Combat Hapkido class provides that too? I don't know. What are the physical demands of the CH practice like? Does it require a lot of mobility and cardio? Just offering another perspective. --__--__-- Message: 9 Date: Wed, 10 Aug 2005 17:28:45 -0400 From: aburrese@aol.com To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: Billy Jack Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Barry wrote: Not that I "disliked" the original movies in particular, however I thought this group's intention was to discuss issues involving Korean Martial Arts, not karatie movie promotions, unless someone is going to say Billy Jack fought with some obscure Korean fighting style? Sorry for getting agrivated. ************************************************* Barry, Billy Jack did fight with a Korean style - Hapkido. In fact, it was Bong Soo Han who did the fight scenes in Billy Jack, and then had a speaking role in the Trial of Billy Jack. In the one scene where GM Han and Billy Jack showed the Hapkido cane techniques, Billy Jack walks up to the training and and asks Jene, Karate? She replies, "No, it's Hapkido." Billy then says he knows it is Hapkido, but questions her learning it. Then they do the cane techniques. So yes, Billy Jack and Bong Soo Han were some of the first introductions to Hapkido that many people in the US had.
