It seems that US is in fact the only overtly Christian country left anywhere in the world. Here in the UK most Christian churches are closed or at the least very poorly attended by a few of the older generation. Yes, there are some 'born-agains' but they are looked upon by the non-religious majority as a little strange and to be avoided if possible. As was already pointed out, Korea has a wealth of religious content. What is it that makes anyone wish to 'convert' them. Isn't this akin to allowing Moslem 'missionarys into US to convert the population to Islam? I know that wouldn't be very well recieved here. Also, isn't it slightly arrogant to assume that 'your' religion is superior to that in place over the past millenia? However, my main question is how does Christianity relate to martial arts. I can understand the relationship of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism etc but I am slightly bewildered. Were that the case none of the world's major (and minor) religions would have any followers. Same can be said for martial arts. Most 'followers' of TKD/HKD/TSD/etc probably feel that their art has some element(s) that will benefit others, thus they witness to others on what they've found. Personally, I didn't begin TKD until age 48, 10 yrs ago. Although I will run out of years long before achieving mastery of this KMA, I have learned that a punch is a punch, a kick is a kick, and a block is a block. Even if 'sport' oriented, isn't a WTF style 'gotta rock their world to score' kick an effective self-defense technique? Doesn't an ITF form refine and perfect 'combat' strikes and blocks? I wish you all the best in your 'Combat Hapkido' study. My limited exposure to Hapkido has taught me that 'close' means you must muscle the technique to make it work, and 'mastery' is precise angles, leverages, and pressure points - you won't become a 'killa' in 6 short months even if the name on the door is 'Combat Hapkido'. But if you must become truly deadly in self-defense in under a year, I would seriously recommend a quality .45ACP, 10,000 rounds of ammo, and a trip to Gunsite, Arizona for training. pil seung, Don Ross In these modern times, many men are wounded for not having weapons or knowledge of their use. - Achille Marozzo, 1536 --__--__-- Message: 4 From: Yuribeast@aol.com Date: Fri, 12 Aug 2005 15:33:52 EDT To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Reply to the reply on the Billy Jack stuff Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hey Guys: Thanks for all your responses. While I wasn't "really" aggrivated about the movie review post, my comments "did" accidently create exactly what I would have preferred to see, which was more detailed info on the fighting style Billy Jack actually used. I appreciate your good natured responses. Barry Barry was Billy Jack not a Hapkido man? Actually one of the very first ones I saw that got me excited about martial arts. That's when I started bouncing my brother Jeff around the house...."I'm gonna take this foot and put it........" Now look he's a MA master. Course he would deny it as modest and humble as he is. I'm always interested in movie reviews for the fellow DDr's. PS stop getting aggravated and train, train, train...
