In the South West you can get spicy "Tex-Mex" cooking and in California you can get anything on a salad. Still, all are food. All Korean MAs are Korean. ....." Great post, Gordon. In fact I would like to use it as a springboard and continue with your cooking analogy. Though what is produced in the kitchens across America may vary, I think I am safe to say that the location is still called a "kitchen", a "frying pan" is still called a "frying pan" and a "stove" is still a "stove". Not long ago I did some research into Hapkido techniques and found five names and three methods for doing the "front kick" alone. Recently I read where the "stright punch" and "opposite punch" that we know in the West are actually exactly opposite for some Korean practitioners. Now I agree that people need to have freedom to prioritize and execute their material as they see fit, but wouldn't you think that after 50 years the Hapkido arts could all decide to call the same throw, by the same name? Thoughts? Best Wishes, Bruce __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! For instance, in the Aikido arts, regardless of affiliation "ikkyo" is > still "ikkyo". In the Karate arts "mae geri" is still mae geri. In the Judo arts, "osoto gari" > is still "osoto gari". Good point. You are right... I was thinking more of an art, other than those I mentioned before like Hwarangdo or Kuk Sool Won that have everything standardized, down to the uniform that you can wear and when. Or rank standardization, when you learn what, etc. I'm not sure that type of standardization is a good thing as it only seems to foster stagnation. imho Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Ray To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Thu, 25 Aug 2005 06:50:13 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [The_Dojang] Hapkido Cooking Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > but wouldn't you think that after 50 years the Hapkido arts could all > decide to call the same throw, by the same name?
