I have found that it is > easier to make contact THEN learn to pull than to learn to pull from > the start and then try to force oneself to hit meaningfully. The only kind of sparring I've ever done is point sparring. Speaking strictly from my own experience, I find the natural tendency is to hit hard even though I've always had to "pull punches" from the beginning. I find I have to exercise great control to NOT hit my opponent hard while sparring. I've heard of the theory that one "fights like they train", and if you pull punches in practice you'll pull punches in a real fight, but my experience with sparring leads me to conclude differently. Chuseok, the autumnal full moon day, is one of Korea's two biggest holidays. Falling on Sept. 17-19 this year, Chuseok is a time for homecoming. The holidays bring in family members to get together, pay respect to their ancestors, and feast on food. Thus, Chuseok is often interpreted as the Korean Thanksgiving. I welcome this season with an open heart because this is a wonderful time to give thanks to our loved ones and friends. On behalf of the Korean Overseas Information Service (KOIS), I would like to thank all of you for your continued interest in and patronage. Please allow me to have the opportunity to inform you as well that KOIS has launched a new publication. The Korea Policy Review is a monthly journal on major policies of the government of the Republic of Korea. Since its first issue in July, the magazine has received enthusiastic feedback from many local and overseas readers. Warm thoughts and wishes that this Chuseok will be especially bountiful! --__--__-- Message: 8 From: Ray To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2005 05:55:31 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [The_Dojang] Junior National Team Camp Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Junior National Team Camp To Be Held Sept. 16-18 in Colorado Springs September 15, 2005 A developmental and preparation camp for the 2005 U.S. Junior National Team will be held this weekend, Sept. 16-18, at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center. A total of 33 athletes from 18 different states, including Junior National Team Members and alternate B-team members, will take part in the camp as the team readies to compete in the 3rd Pan Am Junior Taekwondo Championships in Aruba, October 5-8. The event marks the third and final competition for a USA Taekwondo National Team in 2005. In addition to the athletes, nine staff members will take part in the camp. They are: Head Coach Jason Poos (Edmond, Okla.), Assistant Coaches Brian McCutcheon (Kanoehe, Hawaii), Greg Tubbs (Plano, Tex.), Christina Bayley (Dayton, Ohio) and Jeff Pinaroc (Arlington, Tex.), Family & Friends Coordinator Maria Torres (Stockton, Calif.), Technical Advisors Juan Moreno (Miami, Fla.) and Jean Lopez (Sugarland, Tex.), and Team Leader Scott Novack (Colorado Springs, Colo.). The coaching staff was selected through comprehensive selection procedures. During the camp, athletes will be put through a total of six training sessions that include workouts in Gym 6, classroom film study, strategies for match scenarios and athlete evaluations through a newly developed USAT National Team Athlete Evaluation Profile. This will be supported by video analysis through Dartfish, the official video enhancement software supplier of USAT. Dartfish has become fully integrated into the USAT National Team structure and has been used with the Senior National Team, the World University Games Team and now the Junior National Team. Through Dartfish, USAT will create an athlete development video library that will be accessible by appropriate national team members. The creation of a video library was first started with a scouting video library from the World University Games Team that competed in Turkey in August. The team will depart for Aruba on October 3 and will start competition on October 5. Camp Roster Tajay Byrd (Houston, Tex) Aimee Callison (Wichita, Kan.) *Charlotte Craig (Temecula, Calif.)
