Saturday the 24th was our 5th annual MKMD Camp. We also celebrated our first Blackbelts from white belt forward in our school (we have one transfer promoted to Cho Dan) I am pleased to announce the following candidates survived everything Mr. Joe Clarke and I threw at them Ms. Jillian Burkette age 20 - E Dan - Pathways Martial Arts - Buford, GA Mr. James Jowers age 34 - Cho Dan - Moja Kwan - Canton, GA started as a white belt in 2000 in my garage. Some of you have met James in Jackson Ms. Nancy Zak (looks 30 but is older) - Cho Dan -Moja Kwan - Ball Ground, GA started in 2001 with her daughter Mr. Russell Marks age 16 - Cho Dan & Kyosa Nim - Moja Kwan - Canton, GA many of you have met "Gumby" at Jackson. Kyosa Nim now has Blue hair and is head instructor for Youth Classes Ms. Ariel Zak age 14 - Youth Cho Dan - Moja Kwan - Ball Ground, GA started with her mother in 2001 and is my two time AAU national sparring champion and has also developed into a good coach and will be a good official this season after her 15th birthday. I know many of the gray beards on this list will remember the first time you finished a belt exam and bowed out looking at a handful of your new first borns. Definately a great feeling. OMG I have mutants for the next family gathering :-) To top it all off, we had a celebration dinner at red lobster. My new Dans surprised me at the end of dinner with a cake and some good roasting and toasting, celebrating my first 20 years in the martial arts. So in the background I've been a little busy Moved from government work to private engineering Got promoted to Vice President within 6 months Starting my second year as GA TKD director for USSSA Saja Nim Niko is now playing coach pitch baseball and he and I have been making time to go to the batting cages :-) Once things settle into a routine I will try to get a little more up do date on my DD posts again. I know a guy (friend of a friend) who is going to Korea to work for a while and he was warned about kids poking him in the butt. Is this a real thing that happens in Korea or Japan? I think he said the kids are called something like "ddong-chim", his words not mine ( I have no idea what it means). For what its worth, he is a 4th Dan TKD type guy and I just wonder if it is a way of picking a fight or something. Please anyone who has been recently any thoughts would help, me anyway. Thanks in advance Edward --__--__-- Message: 5 From: "sidekicks" To: Date: Thu, 29 Sep 2005 01:18:36 -0400 Subject: [The_Dojang] sajanim timmermans seminar Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I just wanted to publicly thank Sajanim Timmerman for coming down to my school just outside Toronto and working with my competition team. they had a hoot!!! it has been 4 days since he left and they are still talking about it. our competition team is going to Korea next spring for a week to compete and train and do the tourist thing and we felt that someone of Sajanims ability would be a great chance for them to get a bit of a tune up.all the new material that they got to learn has them very excited. the Joong Bong pattern, the sword cutting, the soft breaking out in the parking lot. the incredibly painful techniques. it was a blast. thank you sir, we cant wait to do this again. for anyone else, if you ever get the chance to train with this man, do it!! he knows his stuff. Also, can anyone give me a good flexibility routine to follow. I'm 29 years old and I seem to be in a slump with my flexibility. I can perform a pretty high roundhouse kick and my side kick isn't bad but when I try to do any of the splits I'm horrible. Please help and share similar experiences so I know I'm not alone in this matter Thanks in advance John --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2005: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
