For some reason, my Norton antispam does not necessary discriminate on what is spam. The issue I missed was not in the archives at the time of my post. BTW folks, for the record: I have dealt with both of the martial arts supplies whose owners are active list members and on the occasions I have needed something, it was taken care of immediately. So my question is what is the > average age anyone has seen someone actively training in TKD? for me > 60, but perhaps some of the members who've been around a while to see > TKD in it's youth can chime in. > Average age is most certainly quite young. But, there are older people that practice as well. My Grandmaster Dong Hoon Kim is in his 60's and still practicing. His Grandmaster Duk Sung Son, I believe is still practicing in his 70's now (by the way Grandmaster Son, was Jhoon Rhee's master as well). And Grandmaster Kim has a student -- Laverne -- who was something like 65 when she started! I tested with her at her 1st degree black belt test and held the boards for her breaking. They were low, but she broke with ease. As she has aged she no longer can spar, or break. But, she has continued with her training mainly concentrating on forms, and I've seen her advance now up to 5th Degree Honorary Black Belt. She did test even though it was honorary, the reason it was honorary was that she can't fill all the requirements -- sparring and breaking. It's been 17 years since that 1st degree black belt test, so she could be in her 80's now.... This was very helpful. Danny, do you know which color represents which component? Chris, I thought within the Um/Yang symbol that red is Heaven and blue is Earth. If I am correct, does this mean the relationship changes with the samgeuk symbol - and if so...why? Do either of you have this symbol anywhere on your computer and if so can you e-mail it to me privately? Or do you have a link to one on-line? I have been trying for a few days to find one on-line with absolutely no luck. Thanks Again, Chris >I believe it is called "samgeuk". It is akin to the um-yang symbol taegeuk >(tai-chi) on the Korean flag, but it also includes "man". Blue is Heaven, >red is Earth, and yellow is man. The idea right now is: Joint Lock Encyclopedia Volume 1: Wrist Locks Volume 2: Arm Bars and Elbow Techniques Volume 3: Finger Locks and Shoulder Techniques Volume 4: Escort Techniques and Lock Flows Volume 5: ??? (Need a name) Each DVD will be around an hour. The fifth DVD will be locks that did not fit in the first four, probably quite a few involving the wrist, but other parts too. I thought about calling it Advanced Locks. Obviously I can?t put all the locks I know into five hours of decent instruction, but I can put quite a few and make an excellent resource on joint locks. I?d like some input from the list on what they think would make this set of DVDs better than other DVDs out there. Should I number each technique as I do it, with sort of an intro screen between each lock with the number like many tape/DVDs do? Should I try to include some street scenes using locks like I did with the Streetfighting Essentials videos, or just the inside instruction? I?m thinking leave the street scenes out of this one, more of the encyclopedia aspect and more time to teach techniques. Should I wear street clothes with short sleeves to show the joints more, or should we wear Hapkido uniforms and roll up the sleeves when I need to illustrate something? How about the name Joint Lock Encyclopedia? Thoughts? Other names, subtitles, etc. that people have? Any other thoughts on this project? Once this one is done, I will be working on another set. Any thoughts on something you would like to see that is not already out there? What type of instructional DVDs do you think are needed? Thanks for any input! This is too good to pass up Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net http://www.wtop.com/?sid=583306&nid=25 Kidnapping Suspect Was Girls' Martial Arts Instructor Updated: Monday, Oct. 3, 2005 - 2:20 PM VIENNA, Va. - A frightening experience for twin 10-year-old girls allegedly involving a man who had taught the girls martial arts at a school in Vienna. Police say Andrew Jacobs, 42, of Vienna is charged with burglary, two counts of abduction and four counts of assault after he allegedly broke into their Vienna home late Saturday. Jacobs taught the girls martial arts at a Vienna school, and apparently did a pretty good job, judging by the bruises seen on his face in court Monday. Police say he got a black eye and other injuries when the girls fought back during the break in. The girls also managed to partially pull off a mask Jacobs was wearing, and they also recognized his voice. The parents hit Jacobs over the head with a lamp. A judge is ordering Jacobs held without bond on assault, abduction and burglary charges. (Copyright 2005 by WTOP Radio and The Associated Press.
