Dan number 11 was I believe Master Hwang, no relation to Hwang Kee, or HC Hwang Kwan Jang Nim. I was going to confirm this with my book of Dan Numbers and just have not had the oppertunity. I did get several pictures with him although I did not get the chance to speak with him dirrecty as you can guess there were many people wanting to take pictures, and I did not want to show any disrespect. He was never in Do Bok, but I was told he is an active member of the Moo Duk Kwan in Korea. I doupt however he is training at central do-jang with regular classes, he is very old. I don't know his rank, but he did set to the immediate left of HC Hwang Kwan Jang Nim. HC Hwang Kwan Jang Nim is dan number 509 but was promoted to 9th dan by Hwang Kee Kwan Jang Nim a couple of years prior to the founders death. This lead me to believe he was an 8th dan, but I can not confirm this. He was at the 60th anniversary event, and the banquet that followed. I did not see him in Seoul at the central Do-Jang. I will confirm his name (First and Last) and his rank and reply later in the week. JCGet more from the Web. He has lived in Canada for over 30 years so I doubt he is president of a Korea based organization. His claim, or that of his student, to "Royal Court Martial Arts" would seem to suggest a link to the KSW clan. This portion from Yang's website (yoonshapkido.com) is interesting: "From 1954-1957 Stephen Yang practiced Hwa Soo Do under instructor Sung Che Im using "Hwa Soo Do Kyo Bon", by Hwang Kwan Jang Nim. In 1957, he began his Tang Soo Do training under its founder, Grand Master Hwang Kee, in Seoul, Korea. Yang was conferred his Cho Dan Degree in 1962 at the Moo Duk Kwan School. >From 1965 to 1975, under Supreme Grand Master Byung Ock (Edward) Yoon, Yang studied Korean Royal Court Hap ki Do (previously called Ho Shin Sul), and In Sul (healing techniques)." Studying Hwa Soo Do from 1954 to 1957??? It would be interesting to learn more about that claim. The five medals pushed the U.S. total to 16 medals (out of 19 athletes) -- including seven gold, three silver and six bronze -- and propelled the Americans into the overall team title. The U.S. also captured the men's overall title and placed second in the women's standings. On Friday, the U.S. captured two gold medals, one silver and two bronze. Winning gold were male heavyweight Stephen Lambdin (Colleyville, Texas) and female flyweight Markie Keelan (Camarillo, Calif.). Lambdin defeated Aruba's Stuart Smith, 15-4, and Puerto Rico's Marvin Sellas, 2-(-1) to win the heavyweight gold. Keelan advanced to the semifinals after her opening match against Puerto Rico was stopped by the referee with Keelan leading, 18-3. In the semis she beat Nahir Giron of Argentina, 4-2, and then won the final over Ana Pena Perez of the Domincan Republic, 2-0. Christina Johnson (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) won a silver medal in the female light middleweight class. She won by disqualification over Venezuela in the opening round, then won handily over Brazil's Paula Cruz, 11-2, before losing in the finals to Canada's Melissa Pagnotta, 11-7. Friday's bronze medalists included male flyweight Justin Sawyer (Anchorage, Alaska) and female heavyweight Maia Eubanks (Indianapolis, Ind.). Sawyer advanced to the semifinals by disqualification over a Venezuelan fighter, then lost a 14-5 decision to eventual gold medalist David Carvalho of Brazil. Eubanks lost her semifinal match to Canada's Dasha Peregoudova, 10-5.
