No, not really. Pretty much who ever wishes to use that title can and does. Usually it is not warranted. Much of "grapping" on the groudn doesn't take into account that thugs normally travel in groups or pairs. We call that the "BUBBA" factor. While you wrestle with Billie Bob on the Ground, BUBBA comes up from behind and kicks your teeth in. I love ground fighting too, but always try to remind the students if you think you can play around on the ground for minutes at a time without someone else getting involved, you WILL be taking a trip to the dentist. Have fun with it (Ground fighting), I do. But in reality, stay off the ground if possible, and get up and done quickly if you have to go there. GOOD article man, GOOD article. daryl --------------------------------- Yahoo! Music Unlimited - Access over 1 million songs. However, I must. This excerpt: "From 1965 to 1975, under Supreme Grand Master Byung Ock (Edward) Yoon, Yang studied Korean Royal Court Hap ki Do (previously called Ho Shin Sul), and In Sul (healing techniques)." I would challenge the validity of this statement based upon the fact that "Ho Shin Sool" (corrected spelling) translated to English from Korean means "Self Defense". Maybe I'm missing what the article was meaning, and maybe they just decided to quit calling it self defense and give it a name? --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Sat, 8 Oct 2005 12:39:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Christopher Spiller To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: Dan number 11 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Thanks for the additional information. I find the area of history of the various kwans to be very interesting. Wish there was more informational sources available in English. See http://martialartsresource.com/anonftp/pub/the_dojang/digests/history.html Although it is entitled the Modern History of Taekwondo, it is one of the more accurate and honest write-ups of the various early Korean Karate kwans. In another part of one of their websites a reference is made to "Ho Shin Do". I suspect that there is a typo and they meant Ho Shin Do instead of the above.
