The seminar begins at 1 p.m. Seminar in the Korean self-defense art by America's ranking Hapkido Grandmaster. I personally know Master Labodycz and there are a few mistakes here. Master Labodycz is a 6th Dan promoted by Master Mike Wollmershauser. Master Labodycz is to my understanding not the head of the AHA any longer! I have been able to break patio blocks pretty easily. Not to say I don’t think bricks are hard to break, they are. But you are using most of your palm when you are hitting a flat object. Hitting the coconut you are using mainly just your heel of the palm not even really hitting more than 3/8 to 1/2 of an inch on the palm is getting the desired effect. I had a very new student come over who weighs about 275 pounds and has had no iron palm experience. He saw me breaking the bricks, did one of the meditations I showed him, and after the meditation, he broke the brick with the first hit. After breaking the brick, he thought he was hot Buff stuff so he asked if I had a coconut. I handed him the coconut I was going to break later that day and he asked if he could try to break it. I said yes, but it’s not my fault if you break your hand. He didn’t break his hand but he came close to it and had a real nice bruise. Later, I broke the coconut in one hit. Now please, again, don’t think I’m saying bricks are not hard to break. They are. But think about how many bones in the human body are that flat, like a brick. Most of the bones are curved or round like the coconut so to me, I think coconuts are not only one of the hardest breaking materials but also the most practical. One more time, I am not saying bricks are not hard, I am saying coconuts are harder to break because they are round and have more give because they are hollow. They are also are alot less predictable. All breaking deserves respect and if you haven’t tried to break any and say it’s easy. All I have to say is get off your recliner and let me see you do it. Keith Pascal teached JKD, however his books are geared more to concepts than anything. He actually has books on teaching martial arts more effectively. He covers planning, encouragement, etc... Yes, you would have to purchase these books, but they are worth it. I have and learned a lot as well as changed parts of my school because of it. -- - Martin E.
