We use the Chang Hun forms. Anyone know of a good school I can refer them to? Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net <<>> Just to add...plyo's are mainly designed to teach the athlete to harness and develop the elastic properties of the muscles, tendons, and other supportive tissues associated with the muscular system. Too often, people treat plyo's like a form of GPP. That will get you killed. In addition, they are a means to facilitate neurological efficiency. Much like heavy lifting (max effort work), they are VERY taxing on the central nervous system, and can quickly lead to a CNS "burnout". This can take weeks to recover from. --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "michael tomlinson" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: RE: [The_Dojang] Plyometrics?? Date: Thu, 17 Nov 2005 17:49:10 +0000 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net For real....I had a coach in high school that use to say that plyo's are the track and field equivalent to doing heavy negatives only lifting in the weightroom...a little goes a long way..and he knows what he is talking about..he is now the field events coach at University of Florida named Dan Pffaf.....basically you are shredding your body tissue and you don't want to repeat this too much at a time...we use to only do heavy negative lifting and plyo's one session a month..and at the most every three weeks...but this was an all out session where nothing was left in the tank....then you eat and get scrrong!! I am not commenting on the effectiveness of the art or the skill of the practioner in the demo. I did note that the attacker always appear to use the same attack (single reverse lunge punch), is this normal in demos? Kindest Regards Slane --------------------------------- Win a Yahoo! I don't remember the quote, but basically was to the effect that if you take out the striking, kicking, throwing....it looks like Aikido (pre-war Aikido mind you). Of course, having trained with Mr. Garrison for about 15 years and having an Aikido and Judo background myself, I can tell you that much of his Hapkido also looks like DRAJJ when necessary. The larger movements of Aikido and motions are a good training tool for one's body but it should in no way confuse the difference between Aikido and Hapkido which in my opinion, are vast. Pre-war Aikido? There is no such thing. Yes? Sajanim Timmerman has high standards for us all and the least I can do for him is to try and reach for those standards.I hold my head high and say with pride that I am a member of the nkmaa and a student of Rudy Timmerman.I left my original organization because I was jaded by the examples being set by the masters and grandmasters.when I first started conversations with GM Timmerman, the only thing he told me that was expected was hard work, sweat and the odd cry of pain. ; ) it was an honour to test alongside my nkmaa brothers and sisters.
