So, I guess I would like to hear what everybody else does for their testings." 12" x 12" x 1" pine: 2 boards each with punch, elbow strike, and jumping front kick for height (8 feet), 1 board each broken over my thigh, shoulder and forehead while in a front stance (to test stance strength), 1 suspended board each with jump spinning hook kick and punch, 3 boards each with front kick, turning kick, side kick, flying side jumping over three people, jump back kick, and 4 or 5 various combination breaks. I broke 5 at my 3rd Dan Test with palm heel strike, also broke 3 with a downward punch before that. Make sure you follow through. Your target should be past the blocks, as if your hitting the ground or an object behind the blocks. By the way I broke the 3 with the punch, but also broke a knuckle. OOPS! At our tests, there are two to five Korean Grand Masters judging. They decide what will be at the test. As far as board breaking, first we are strictly taditional Tae Kwon Do. So board breaking involves difficult jumping, spinning techniques. BUT... weather the board is 1", or 1/2", if the technique is not good, done properly, a 1/2" board even with a back side kick will not break. Today, students had to break three 1" boards with a back side kick... most adults did, and even 5 of the ten year olds did it the first time. What is the key to breaking, sure technique... but... well for my red belt I had to break three 1" boards with a jumping back side kick.... I let it all go, all I focused on was the end result, going thru those boards... my keyop, breath, all energy keyed at the foot, I remember I wasnt sure I broke them because I felt nothing. Having watched a 4th degree break 4 cynder blocks with his elbow, the process of drawing your energy through breathing technique and explosion... no hesitation, 100% committed. Without the 100% commitment, a 1/2" board will not break even with simple techniques. sandy --__--__-- Message: 6 Date: Sat, 3 Dec 2005 17:38:22 -0800 (PST) From: Jye nigma To: MartialArtsTalk@yahoogroups.com Subject: [The_Dojang] video clips: aikido material Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net http://www.aikidojournal.com/download_media.php?media=video&id=103 http://www.aikidojournal.com/download_media.php?media=video&id=102 http://www.aikidojournal.com/download_media.php?media=video&id=101 http://www.aikidojournal.com/download_media.php?media=video&id=100 http://www.aikidojournal.com/download_media.php?media=video&id=99 --------------------------------- Yahoo!
