Kim were "friends" and were associated with Son Duk Son. Both would come to tournaments and events held by the World Tae Kwon Do Association. I found a picture I can find from that time, around 1966-67 and Lee and Kim are wearing a patch that has the same shape as the current ATA patch but the letters look like "MKF" or "MKA" the uniform is in such a manner that the last letter is not clear with a loop. So my memory may have been faulty that Lee's group was MTA, or it may have been called that later. At some point I will try to scan the photo and see if the patch can be seen, if anyone is interested. Lee was an instructor at the Osan AFB in Korea (I was at Osan in 1969) and two of the instructors there Lee Kwan Sung and Kang Young Sun were instructors of mine - both knew Lee and were juniors of Lee. That I knew Lee from the US I think surprised them a bit :-) These instructors came from the Chung Do Kwan line. >The only MTA I remember is James Benko out of Michigan. >I found this on the web: >What was the original name of the ATA? - When Eternal Grand Master Lee >started teaching in 1966 in Omaha, Nebraska, he formed the >Midwest Karate >Federation. I am a Bi-vocational Pastor (read the church can not support my family fully so I need to work outside the church), public school teacher, and a budding martial artist. People think that my family and I can live comfortably on good wishes and hand me downs. I am not knocking people’s generosity; I am simply saying that Martial Arts (MA) teachers and pastors live in the same “fish bowl’. If a pastor accepts a position at a church that can support his/her family in comfort, it is often said, by the congregation he/she is leaving, that the pastor is chasing the money rather than serving God. As with the MA teacher who seeks to build up a good business is often said to have sold out to the “McDojang” concept rather than focusing on the “art”. My MA teacher is attempting to build up her business and I am wholly support the attempt. The support comes in the form of seeking out possible new students continually and, along with other students, making an effort to ensure building is clean and presentable at all time. Whether it is for the art or for God, someone somewhere will claim to be more devoted; usually to cover up some inadequacy in their own walk. Take heart Mr. Gordon, there are those out in the world who know how you feel and agree with your desire to be a good husband, father, provider, AND a true martial artist. Our six training principles teach; politeness, patience, alertness, bravery, give your best effort, and to show respect for other as well as yourself; if we can do that then we are following the tenets of our art and God. Press on, sir, press on! I'm not going to try to summarize them here. None of them is very long. All are worth reading. I particularly like his term "security theater" as opposed to real security. _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list, 2300 members Eskrima@martialartsresource.net Copyright 1994-2005: Ray Terry and Martial Arts Resource Standard disclaimers apply http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima --__--__-- Message: 14 Date: Fri, 16 Dec 2005 12:22:28 -0800 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] The SK/NK promotion of taekwondo Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Koreas to Hold Military Talks Early Next Year By Seo Dong-shin Staff Reporter, The Korea Times CHEJU ISLAND _ South and North Korea Friday agreed to hold a new round of inter-Korean military talks as early as possible to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula. After the final session of inter-Korean Cabinet talks here, Kim Chun-sig, the South's spokesman for the talks said that the two sides actually agreed to hold the military talks early next year. In a nine-point joint press release adopted at the end of the four-day talks, North Korea agreed to implement at an early date the agreements of a joint statement issued at the six-nation talks on the North's nuclear programs in Beijing last September. The two sides agreed to cooperate to peacefully resolve the nuclear issue, the release said. They also agreed to take steps to "acknowledge and respect" each other's ideology and system, by shedding off "old concepts from an era of confrontation that have marred reconciliation and unity." As for the inter-Korean economic cooperation, the two Koreas will expand and upgrade the level for mutual interests and prosperity and balanced development of the Korean economy, it said. In the inter-Korean economic talks, they will discuss and try to reach a consensus on several issues such as the development of the inter-Korean industrial complex in the North Korean border city of Kaesong, customs, communications and test-run of the railway link-ups across the border. At the inter-Korean Red Cross talks to be held before next February, the two sides will tackle humanitarian issues of mutual concern, it said. Reunion sessions for separated families through video link-ups, the third of its kind, will be held in late February, while the 13th round of face-to-face family reunion sessions will take place at Mt. Kumgang in the North in late March. They pledged to cooperate to register the historic sites in Kaesong as the UNESCO's World Heritage Sites as well as preserve them. As to the promotion of taekwondo, or traditional Korean martial arts, the two Koreas will also actively support cooperation between the South's World Taekwondo Federation and the North's International Taekwondo Federation. The South will hand over Pukkwan Taechop-bi, a stone monument of the Choson Kingdom (1392-1910) which it recently took back from Japan, to the North soon to restore it to its original position in the North. South and North Korea agreed to hold the next round of inter-Korean ministerial talks on March 28-31 in Pyongyang, the North's capital. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2005: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
