The 19-year-old Rodriguez, World Cup bronze medalist in the 54kg division, had already opted out of the Ibero-American competition last November because he suffered from hematuria and pain in the right kidney, Xinhua reported. --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Wed, 28 Dec 2005 07:15:07 -0800 (PST) From: freddie bishop To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] hapkido differences Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I have watched several hapkido demonstrations over the last several years, and the one thing I have noticed is where the defender places himself in relation to his opponent. Some stand closer than other practioners. I didn't know if that was a stylistic difference or a personal matter. I lumped Kuk Sool Won, and Hwarang Do in with 'good ole hapkido' because the empty hand techniques looked, from an outsiders viewpoint, similar. From my observations, traditional hapkido execute their techniques from a natural standing position, Kuk Sool Won uses wide, and deep stances, and Hwarang Do guys tend to stand closer to their attacker like in judo which is different from traditional Hapkido and Kuk Sool Won. I myself have never been one to "overcharge" or even cosider testing anyone whom is not ready. If you come before me for a black belt test it's because you are ready willing and able to pass the test.
