Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I skipped from white belt to green belt missing yellow and orange and then skipped a tip from red/black directly to black belt. You know what? It did me absolutely no good. I felt I didn't deserve black belt when I made it and had a lot of catching up to do. But then after all...the master I later had made up for it by not putting in the kukkiwon form and delaying me one year. See...life IS a zero sum game! "hey it's that late already"?...that tells me everyone is busy with their focus and learning and it also goes fast for me! Seldom we hear people trash talk or question rank of other people they are on the mat with. Such things are usually reserved for the people who sit on the sidelines lol. Who has time to talk when you are doing what you love. We had a demo at our school a few years ago and it seemed that each counter had at least 35 strikes in it. Nothing wrong with it I guess but it just seemed like beating a "dead horse." :-) Brooke Thomas --__--__-- Message: 6 Date: Mon, 9 Jan 2006 10:15:53 -0800 (PST) From: Jye nigma To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] teaching what you can't do Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I just thought of a question. This question is with respect and to mainly older teachers. How do you teach something that you can't do. For instance, let's say there is a technique that you can't do due to physical reasons, like a jumping split kick into a forward kick. If you yourself are physically unable to do it how do you teach others to do it? I hope I worded this correctly. I thought of this question because I was thinking about obese teachers who teach martial arts and can't do some things because of their weight problem. Jye --------------------------------- Yahoo! When he shows something he cannot physically do, he explains the movement, explains the part he cannot do or how his knee/leg will be moving differently, and then does the motion. He then helps us to do it the "correct" way. This has been helpful and not confusing. Kay -----Original Message----- From: Jye nigma [mailto:kingjye@yahoo.com] I just thought of a question. Two instructors I train with (My instructor Lee Jun-kyu and a friend and instructor Kim Hyun) both own schools and they are both 6th dan now. They owned schools as 5th dans as well.
