I've been warned many times that I'm on the >highway to burning out and I have never thought that it would happen. I >thought it was something that would happen over a period of time. I've >always loved Taekwondo, recently I haven't been enjoying myself as much >as I had been. When I experience this myself, its always a time when I reach one of the many "plateaus" in my training....a time when I've noticed I wasn't that improving at the rate I did in during my first few years...or worse... times when I've actually "lost ground" through bad habits I picked up along the way. Don't we all wish we could continually experience the thrill of our first successful kick...without the pressure of fellow training partners expecting you to perform the basics perfectly every time because you supposedly passed that test. I guess I'm trying to say that it boils down to the pressure we put on ourselves to improve. We're all going to reach that plateau where physical ability inhibits our physical performance. We're all going to reach a point in our training where the thrill of learning turns into a frustrating battle to reach Bruce Lee-dom. Not to say we shouldn't push ourselves....but when I lack motivation...it's usually when I'm being too hard on myself. So when I finally gain perspective, I realize that I'd rather be "mediocre me" getting exercise and having fun with friends than sulking on the couch eating ho ho's. ============================================================================= = NOTICE - This communication may contain confidential and privileged information that is for the sole use of the intended recipient. As I remember, Elvis almost never trained with the rest of Master Rhee's students, but rather late at night after the school would be closed to the rank and file. Elvis would show up at the school around 9:00 or 10:00 pm with his personal "group" including Red West (no relation), Mike Stone and a few others. I don't really remember any teaching or learning going on, but mainly a lot of posturing and loud talk. Elvis had little or no technique as I recall, and I ended up holding a heavy bag in the back for Priscilla, who was a very hard working purple belt. My main memory was her doing round kicks with her makeup dripping down her face and her beehive hair slowly falling apart. Master Rhee's school in Germantown still is a featured visiting spot during Elvis Week every year, but he hasn't been in his original location downtown for at least fifteen years. His school is covered in Elvis memorabilia, and there is one interesting picture of Elvis, Master Rhee, Bruce Lee and a very young looking Chuck Norris. --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Tue, 10 Jan 2006 19:57:43 -0500 To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net From: Jerry Subject: [The_Dojang] master Godwin Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Thank you one and all for you responses to my query (all of it positive). Once I'm over my cold I'll stop in at the local Dojang and see if there is the flexibility I require due to my health issues which may interrupt my training for various periods (asthma, type 2 diabetes, high blood preasure etc...) vs an EFC fixed contract. I'm looking forward to getting back to the dojang, as it can only help the above-mentioned conditions! Also, I have found over the years that I have a keener eye for the nuances of the what and how of a technique and can share those with the students. pil seung, Don Ross Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts. - Winston Churchill --__--__-- Message: 6 Date: Tue, 10 Jan 2006 17:25:39 -0800 (PST) From: Jye nigma Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] video of HC Hwang teaching To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net My video was choppy and so It wasn't clear what was being taught.
