Anyone in the LEO or LEO training area will have heard of James Lindell (the Lindell method of hangun retention), but not sure if Jim and the NLETC carries long gun blanks (just what is an assault weapon anyway?), but others do. I have a Remington 870 "Red Gun" that I use to practice/teach long gun disarms and retention. They're easy to carry, hard to spot, quickly deployed, damned near impossible to take away, and will slice you open like a ripe watermelon. Friend of mine had a co-worker that got hit with one of those things at a party. IMHO the best weapons to practice with are real firearms that are unloaded...BUT...at around 5 to 6 hundred dollars a piece sometimes people don't want to put their personal weapons out there to get yanked, twisted, and possibly dropped... also...when it comes to edged weapons the short ones are the hardest to defend against IMHO... Longer recovery time aside, I would like to submit a very possible reason for this. My son is currently double majoring in Athletic Training and Exercise Science. We have very close contact in training as I help him and work out with him every year for football , and there are many of us that knows what THAT entails. In the past couple of years I have been sore for no good reason, have run the gamut of doctors citing age as the problem etc. One day when working out, my son suggested that perhaps I was a little dehydrated. I laughed and told him that he knows how much I drink(water, Stovall!) He said that he had learned in class that that the older one gets, the easier it is to become slightly dehydrated and would like me to try something for him. I agreed to listen and try this and he fold me to eliminate any caffine or soft drinks from my diet(I do not consume alchohol except the very rare once a year drink), as these are the common culprits. Since I sweat so profusely,(being a portly martial artist) I did use Thermotabs from time to time to help replace what I was losing in my sweat besides water. It took a couple a weeks, but I really did see quite a difference in how I felt. Not 25 again, but "do-able". I have re-introduced the occasional cup of coffee or tea, but if training is going to escalate, I cut these out. This has made a heck of a difference to me over the past year or so. I hope that this is of some use to someone at ANY age struggling to stay the course in their training.
