Do they start over at white under a recognized school/instructor? I ask because some friends and I came up under the ITF forms and met the NTFA requirements for testing, but are belts and certificates were awarded from our school, not from a major organization. I understand the value of being in a major organization, but not coming up that way, how does one become registered? My instructor stated he didn't like the politics so he followed the promotion rank/structure, just did it himself... I bring this up because I'm now teaching based on my instructor's certification and promoting me. How do I ensure I have my students rated under an organization if I don't belong to one? I know I would have to register them under ITF 'cause that's what I know, but I don't know how to go about doing that. I don't feel my instructor was bad or wrong, I just feel as an instructor myself I'd like the students I promote to be recognized and accepted at any TKD school they would transfer to (I'm in a military community) so chances are good they won't stay with me forever. I have faith in what I learned and believe I am just as good as anyone of my rank, so what do I do to get myself and my students recognized in the ITF community? Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated. I know that sometimes we tend to paint with a very broad brush. One of my instructors was speaking the other day about how forms are the art part of the martial arts. The time and effort to learn the forms to me shows a willingness to place something before my desires. When I started to study MA I would view the forms portion as something just to thought to the fighting and self defense stuff. To me all the hype of UFC seems to strip away the art and just present the violence. Rude, obscene, disrespectful, and self-serving seems to be the characteristics that are selling events like the UFC. These same characteristics fly in the face of tenants of traditional MA. I guess what I am getting at is that some of the MMA guys and gals seem to use MA for what they can get out of it, rather than looking what they can give back. Lopez, 27, of Sugarland, Texas, tested positive for L-methamphetamine at the Round Robin Fight-Off last month in Colorado Springs, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said. USADA and USA Taekwondo said Lopez had not taken the substance to enhance performance. USADA said the chemical is an ingredient in cold and cough remedies and is "particularly susceptible to unintentional violations." Lopez agreed to participate in a doping education program, USADA said. He will be eligible to return to competition when finished with the program, with the rest of his suspension deferred. Lopez forfeited his final-round victory in the January Round Robin. --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Mon, 13 Feb 2006 17:17:27 -0800 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Lopez redux Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Local taekwondo athlete accepts suspension after positive drug test (2/13/06 - SUGAR LAND, TX) - Taekwondo athlete Steven Lopez tested positive for L-methamphetamine and accepted a three-month suspension.
